2025 HFOil Mock Draft - NSH OTC 3:00PM

With the 148th overall pick the Pittsburgh Penguins select G - Gabriel D'Aigle

20250125_BLB_VIC-Gabriel-DAigle-Alex-Garneau-2025-01-25-scaled.jpg

  • Team: Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
  • Height/Weight: 6'4", 220 lbs
  • Catches: Left
  • Playing Style: D'Aigle is a large, positionally disciplined goaltender with strong fundamentals and an imposing net presence. His size, reflexes, and lateral quickness make him a formidable presence, particularly when facing structured offensive attacks. He excels at staying square to shooters, limiting their ability to exploit open angles, and tracking pucks well through traffic. His ability to seal the ice effectively makes him difficult to beat down low, but his rebound control remains an area for refinement. While his technical foundation is strong, his lateral transitions appear mechanical, affecting his ability to recover after initial saves.
  • Strengths: D'Aigle consistently makes himself appear even bigger in net, using his size to take away shooting angles and limit high-danger chances. His ability to read plays early helps neutralize threats before they develop. He maintains strong visual contact with the puck in scrambles, often eliminating second-chance opportunities through smart positioning rather than raw athleticism. His ability to control pucks cleanly on the initial save is a valuable asset in structured play. He is among the best in the QMJHL in stopping Grade A chances, thanks to his explosive lateral movement and strong post-to-post recovery. His ability to challenge shooters aggressively forces rushed decisions and low-percentage shots.
  • Athletic Ability: Despite his large frame, D'Aigle moves explosively laterally, though his mechanics can make his movements somewhat rigid. He is effective at sealing the ice but can be vulnerable to low shots when shifting laterally. His ability to recover and make second and third saves remains one of his standout traits.
  • Areas for Improvement: Rebound Control is his biggest weakness—pucks often bounce into high-danger areas, particularly into the low slot, forcing his defenders into recovery mode. Refining his ability to absorb shots cleanly or redirect rebounds away from dangerous zones will be critical for his development. His footwork lacks fluidity, limiting his ability to adjust to broken plays quickly. His lateral movement is mechanical, creating gaps along the ice during transitions. D’Aigle was regarded as one of Canada’s top young goaltenders, earning a backup role at the 2023 U18s as a 16-year-old. However, his performance has regressed over the past two seasons in the QMJHL, where he faced more shots than any other goalie in the league. Scouts are evaluating whether his struggles stem from a poor team environment or true developmental concerns

Francesco Dell’Elce is one of my favourite picks made so far. Should have been picked 2 years running and definitely won’t get passed over a 3rd time.

With the 155th overall pick, the Washington Capitals are proud to select, from Penn State,

C/W Charlie Cerrato

Love this guy, Cerrato is someone I hope the Oilers look at with their 3rd rounder. Speedy with both skill and grit, can play center and the wing, good faceoff man, and most importantly, not far away from being an NHL contributor if he pans out. Over a ppg in the NCAA as a double overager this year and really came in clutch toward the end of the season.

. . .

4 (123) - W Max Westergard
5 (155) - C/W Charlie Cerrato
