Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion III

I can deal with Mercenary Mitch.™

I'll pass on EP.

Petterson in my opinion has a lot more questions or red flags. The only real question with Marner is will he finally produce in the playoffs. He's been a very durable player in his career and I'm sure he could produce in the regular season here. He will be more expensive though, probably by a few million per.

Bottom line this team needs another elite level forward and should explore all options to accomplish that.

There seems to be a feeling that Marchand to Toronto is very possible this off season. Marchand himself said in a presser he was a leafs fan when he was young. Vets seem to like finishing out there careers there.
I don't see it.

Why go from the perfect situation in every way to that singular definition of hell, playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs?

The fan base & media are the worst in the entire league. And that includes Montreal, which is saying something.

It ain't broke. I rather doubt Brad will seek to fix it.

And I don't consider Zacha or Mittelstadt 'major', lol. Let's hope!

I'm in no rush to get rid of Zacha. Good value for his contract, versatile, plays both ways, friend of Pasta whose seen a awful lot of his close friends leave the past few years. He's not the hill I'd die on but he's welcome on my team.

I really don't care what they do with Mittelstadt but anyone who thinks he's being dealt this summer I'm afraid is going to be disappointed. Value is questionable, I don't think they brought him in just to jettison him this summer and believe they'll give him next season to see what he's got. It's not like they don't have any job openings up front for him to compete for. As it stands they only have arguably 6 established NHL forwards.

How can this be when the Buffalo Sabres exist?

Grier stated that he was willing to trade down in return for a player who could help the Sharks immediately. Doubt that Zacha or Geekie would do it, but it's worth a phone call.

Zacha or Geekie?

I guess here’s a serious question:

Geekie’s contract has been predicted to be around $6.5M/yr (4 years). How do folks feel about that number?

And while we’re at it, Lohrei at $5.5M (6 years). How does that look?

Assuming the contracts are somewhere in this realm, are we happy with that - or do Geekie and Lohrei become Sweeney’s Lucic and Hamilton in his second major team retool?

I root for Buffalo teams, as I root for Buffalo.

I love Canada, with my Canadian roots, and I would love for Toronto to win a Cup. Which, if anyone is paying attention, they have failed to do, in uniquely, fantastically miserable fashion, since 1967.

(Bonus points: Who was the goaltending tandem that season?

(Hint: both are considered among the greatest NHL goaltenders of all time.)

I feel bad for the mythical even keel Leafs fan. I'm sure they exist.

Otherwise, they deserve their misery. As does Leafs media.

Who feed on it like flies on shit.

Orders of magnitude worse than poor Buffalo.

I'd honestly be fine with either player plus another 1st being sent out if it was to move up to the top 2. Id also be totally okay moving on from Lohrei for just about anything of potential value though.

I will be surprised if Geekie gets a contract in the 6’s unless they give 6+ years. If it’s short term it’s $7M+. Or else it’s the arb number for one year.

I’d happily lock Lohrei up at that number but if his agent even brought that to him he should be fired. No reason for him to do that.

Ehlers can and has often played his off-wing, I like his versatility.

If the Bruins could add Petterson without any major subtractions, and sign Ehlers, I think that would be a tremendous off-season.
Fan of both but you have two LH guys here at 175ish. Don't you think it would be a little redundant? They are both immense talents so I wouldn't oppose it but I feel like my ideal lineup has one, not both. They both kind of get banged up at their size.

I'm starting to feel more inclined to sign Ehlers because I think he is the best FA talent for the team and then send an OS or a trade package including the TOR 2026 1st and FLA 2027 1st for McTavish. No idea if they bite on that but the 7.0-9.3 mil range is a 1st, 2nd, 3rd so I think it's close. Maybe add a 2025 2nd or a prospect.

I'm honestly ok overpaying for McTavish whatever it might be. I think that kid is a gamer and would make a great Bruin. He's close to breaking out.

McTavish net front, Lindholm bumper, Pasta and Ehlers on the half walls, McAvoy/Lohrei at the point. This has a good mix of size/speed/skill.

I would not be comfortable giving Lohrei a six year contract . Think a 2 year bridge deal would be the best way to go for both sides

There is some crossover but if the plan is to pair up Petterson on a line with Pasta, you need a puck distributor for that 2nd line.

There are lots of open roster spots to add other elements. I think the redundancy right now is Elias/Zacha/Mitts but they can deal with that later maybe next off-season. Next October won't be an ideal roster and they'll leave some room for a couple young players (2 of say Poitras/Lysell/Minten/Locmelis) to see if they can cut the mustard, at least to start. If they want a quick turnaround they have to integrate a couple young forwards in 2025-26.
