2025-26 NHL salary cap. Estimated $92.5m, but could be $95-97m?

I've been thinking a bit about this lately, and the players wanting expansion fees to be included in HRR and part of the cap doesn't make a whole lot of sense. All it'll serve to do it artificially bump the cap with HRR that wouldn't there the following year, leading to a worsened escrow situation. Unless they do it where the expansion fees get included in the HRR calculation over a longer time span (i.e. $500m gets spread out over 10 years, adding $50m to each season's HRR over that span).

Not that it would be the first time players don't quite think this kind of thing through, but it's not quite as simple as "expansion fees = more HRR = higher cap"

I had to read your post a half dozen times to get it to sink in.. lol. You're right, to account for it correctly the HRR increase would have to be spread over the remaining life of the CBA or some other fixed duration (similar to how AAV is figured on contracts). Otherwise, there would be a significant spike in the cap the year an expansion fee is realized. and a significant fall the year after.

So Gary and Bill are in Ottawa doing their annual visit
Now doing his Press Conference,

Got the cap question
Has no idea where those numbers came from, said numbers being thrown around are way high (can’t remember exact wording).
Also says there is a mechanism to do it, if agreed on both sides, (to go over the 5% increase.)
However he said the sides haven’t met, and that they haven’t discussed it.

So, is Friedman jumping the gun big time here? He seemed to be the one who let the cat out of the bag?
Bettman is also always very coy about this issue.............

A question here too guys, the whole deferred stuff, used by the Leafs and The Canes so far.........any idea if others will jump on board, or will the league shut this down on the next CBA?
Deferred bonus that doesn't count on the cap does not seem right? Am I missing something?
