I was 7 in 92-93?I just arrived in Baily's cross roads. Redskins had just won the Superbowl and I was wondering wtf was going on

I’ve said many times, not really a football fan. But you don’t grow up in DC—at least you didn’t before Snyder—without being steeped in the Skins. The ‘82-‘83 run was so crazy. Every Sunday was a party. And from then on they were omnipresent. The fun bunch. The hogs. All the HOFers. My jr high home room teacher actually made us sing HTTR every morning after the pledge. It was like that.

Then in high school I was friends with Jack Kent Cooke’s grandson. We would go hang out in his box at RFK and party all day.

But after I moved to California for college, they won once more and then faded into oblivion. And since I didn’t watch football for its own sake, I lost interest. And eventually they were just a joke.

Gotta say, this is bringing back the good old feelings.

As happy as I am that my team won, the Lions were my most liked remaining non Commanders squad. That was a hard watch. I feel for their fans having experienced shit for decades.

That said that was a 2 loss team and heavy favorite that we walked into their trap and "took over their trap" as the kids say

It just goes to show you how much it means for everyone to be on the same page. In the Snyder era he or Bruce Allen would be the primary decision makers and would make their will known to the front office. The FO would want someone else (i.e. not want to draft Dwayne Haskins) and the owner would make it known he wanted them to 'draft the quarterback'. Snyder was a pox on this team for many years, trying to run this team heavyhanded like his own personal toy. Signing flashy free agents, having no regard for team chemistry, struggling with a revolving door at quarterback. Now, with new ownership and a new front office, this team is finally realizing their potential. But for them to make an impact this soon after Snyder leaves, is simply remarkable

There is also the value of belief. This is a CONFIDENT team. They have nothing to lose and no idea what their limitations are, since everything is so new.

I still can't believe what this team is doing. I didn't think they had a chance. Esp if we were headed into a shoot out type of game, which is what it was looking like at half.

All of a sudden our secondary actually looks really good. They made so many god damn plays.

Commies have now, in 1 year, won as many playoff games as they did under Lil Danny’s 24 year reign of error. This season has fully validated that Snyder was every bit as bad as we all thought he was. Every time you shook your head despondently and muttered I can’t f***ing believe this, you were right.

We have so many new people in the area, they don't know what a huge deal the Skins used to be.

My dad (not a Skins fan) used to go grocery shopping during the games because the store would be empty.

My school gave us an optional day off to go to the parade.

HTTR was everywhere.

This is what people don't understand.

There were no Ravens or any team at all in Baltimore in the mid-80s to early 90s. The Colts left in 1984 and hadn't been good for some time. After the Unitas years they were bad except for a 3yr period in the mid-70s when the Steelers and Raiders were the obstacles.

From 1982 onward there were a LOT of Redskins fans all over the DMV including northern MD, and including me as a kid who just loved sports and especially the NFL. DC101 was huge with support as were other local media, and everyone I knew was either a WAS or DAL fan.

This is why I've been a WAS/BAL fan all these years. Our area against the world. Newer Ravens fans don't get it.

At one point, there was a twenty-year wait-list for season tickets. People handed them down like family heirlooms. When I grew up (in RVA) it was all 'Skins (except for the contrarians who rooted for Dallas just because they were tired of all the talk of the 'Skins all the time). In my teens and twenties, I got so spoiled with Super Bowls that I could have never have imagined it would take 30+ years to be relevant again. My kids are asking me, "What does it feel to finally have a good football team to root for?" I'm like, "Finally? You have no idea! The 'Skins used to be the team..."

BTW, so, do you guys think the ownership matters in football...?

If you watched Receivers, this is his thing. He can recite every WR drafted before him. That guy is awesome.

Pretty cool…..so happy some of the “youngs” here (and all around the DMV today) get a taste of what we had as kids.

This team, Sunday’s in Washington, used to be such a huge thing. I can recall as a kid, walking through Fair Oaks, and if there was a Skins game on…..there would be crowds around the TVs in Sears watching as wives shopped….otherwise most places were ghost towns when games were on.

I myself had almost completely forgotten how much a winning NFL team can suck you in as a fan. Thankful.

JD5 = The GROAT……Greatest Rookie Of All Time

JD now has more playoff wins then any QB since Dug Williams. Let that soak for a bit.

Mark Rypien won 5 playoff games in his three years starting full time including the SB XXVI MVP award. He wasn't a great QB, he couldn't scramble at all, but when the Hogs gave him time he could dissect a defense and he had a great, accurate deep ball. In some ways, like JD does. In 1991 he played so perfectly that he didn't even rack up huge stats, because they had put the game away by halftime a bunch, so they just ran the ball the whole second half. He threw six TD passes in a game vs Atlanta and had a chance for 7 but he took himself out of the game instead of chasing records.

Most annoying thing yesterday was my internet connection started to shit the bed around 6pm so had to watch the game on my phone till about 10pm till it was finally fixed.
