Hockey's Mecca
The only "defense-obsessed" moves I can really think of were bringing Kiermaier back and signing IKF.

They've focused on defense, but they've also brought in all-bat players like Belt and Turner and promoted players with no defined position to get their bats in the lineup.

I think the idea that they're just obsessed with defense doesn't have much backing. They've made a couple d-first moves the last couple years, but there's no way you can point to that as a clear direction going forward, especially since they've changed directions based on results a couple times.
Belt and Turner were DH signings lol. What does a position that doesn't take the field have to do with defense? Also they only started desperately promoting prospects with no defined position once it was blatantly obvious to them that the season was slipping away early.

They spent years building primarily around offense. Then the defense bit them in the ass in the playoffs, so they shifted some things around to focus more on defense . Now the lack of offense has bit them in the ass... why would anyone think they will continue to focus exclusively on defense? It obviously hasn't worked out nearly the way they had hoped, but they've shown a willingness to change course in an effort to address weaknesses. There's no reason to think a guy like Santander wouldn't fit.

Jeez, 113 mph on that double for Horwitz. Hardest-hit ball by a Jay not named Vladdy this year?

This pitcher is throwing meatballs.
Yep. Coming into today, Vlad has 33 of the 34 hardest hit balls of the season. The only other one is Kirk at 112.9.

Edit: looks like the hard hit ball was actually Vladdy's double at 112.7, so nothing for Horwitz and Vladdy is now 34 of 35.

Alek Manoah has been laughed at for over a year. And new pitcher Y Rodriguez was called up.

Both them have era in the 3's.
No one "laughed" at Manoah but if you want to know anything about him you need to reference last season not this one. He also pitched all of 5 games for 24 total innings. Bit of a difference there.

Oh weird. They definitely put the 113 mph graphic up for Horwitz.

Hot take, but Will Wagner might be the greatest player in the history of baseball.

How can you argue with a career 1.000 batter?
