When is the draft? Who are the top prospects? Or local guys to each team? Any 2007s that “should have been drafted “?
Last season the U18 selection was the following Wednesday following the 2023 Priority Selection. I would expect we should be hearing about a date for this year's u18 selection roughly about the same time frame however no official announcement has been made yet would think will hear in the coming days.

League has been pretty good at keeping fans up to date on drafts. Stay tuned...

Thanks to the internet (Elite Prospects), some research can be done on U18 prospects but there are a few obstacles. Some U18 leagues don't publish their stats and I'm not sure any two U18 leagues are created equal either.

The little bit of research I did involved looking at the CCHL, OJHL and GOJHL and finding 2007 born players who are undrafted and not committed to a US school.

Some of these guys only played a handful of games in one of these leagues but put up good numbers at U18 and/or decent numbers at U16 the previous season. Others played most of the season as a 16 year old in these leagues.

There will be players who only played U18 and put up good numbers who will get drafted but these players I'm listing (who played at least some games in these leagues) played games against 20 yo players which would give some insight into their ability to handle the size and speed of the OHL.

Here they are in no particular order.......

Jonathan Kapageridis LHD 6’ , 170lbs
Joined Cobourg Cougars of the OJHL late in the season from Don Mills Flyers U18 team
He put up 3 pts in the last reg. season game with the Cougars then added 14 pts in 17 playoff games

Curtis Allen LHD 5’10” , 161lbs
Played 6 games in the OJHL with Haliburton Huskies and also had 26 points in 34 games with the York Simcoe Express U18 team.
He put up 33 pts in 36 games with the Barrie U16 team the previous season.

James McMurray LW/C 5’7” , 150lbs

Played 3 games in the OJHL with Lindsay Muskies and also had 47 points in 34 games with the Peterborough Petes U18 team.
He put up 36 pts in 36 games with the North Central U16 team the previous season.

Nolan Keeler LW/C 5’10” , 150lbs

Played 6 games in the OJHL with Mississauga Chargers and also played with the Toronto Marlies U18 team (stats not published).
He put up 37 pts in 36 games with the Halton U16 team the previous season.

Dylan Turcotte LW 6’1” , 161lbs

Played 2 games in the CCHL with Ottawa Jr Senators and also played with the Ottawa Jr Senators U18 team scoring 49 points in 30 games.
He put up 63 pts in 29 games with the Gloucester U16 team the previous season.

Zach Venance RW 6’ , 165lbs

Played 8 games in the CCHL with Rockland and also played with the Ottawa Myers Auto U18 team scoring 42 points in 29 games.
He put up 19 pts in 42 games with the Renfrew U18 team the previous season.

Ricky Wilson LW 6’ , 181lbs

Played 3 games in the CCHL with Rockland and also played with the Ottawa Myers Auto U18 team scoring 25 points in 24 games.
He put up 28 pts in 40 games with the Ottawa Jr. Senators U18 team the previous season.

Brandt Whitelaw LD 6’2” , 172lbs

Played 6 games in the CCHL with Pembroke and also played with the Ottawa Valley U18 team scoring 15 points in 25 games.
He put up 6 pts in 9 games with the Peterborough U16 team the previous season.

Kolton Osipenko LD 6’2” , 161lbs

Played 1 games in the CCHL with Renfrew and also played in the EOJHL (Jr. C) with the Valley Timberwolves scoring 6 points in 39 games.
He put up 21 pts in 29 games with the Ottawa Valley Silver 7s U16 team the previous season.

Devon Ferroni LHD 6’1” , 172lbs

Played 3 games in the GOJHL with Kitchener-Waterloo and also had 26 points in 34 games with the Hamilton Steel U18 team.
He put up 16 pts in 33 games with the Hamilton U16 team the previous season.

Cooper Drennan RW 5’9” , 165lbs

Played 43 games in the GOJHL with Pelham and had 24 points.
He played on Toronto Marlies U16 team the previous season (no stats published).

Jake Salvatore RW 6’2” , 185lbs

Played only 1 game in the GOJHL with St. Catharines but put up 52 pts in 34 games with the Southern Tier Admirals U18 team.

Cooper Drennan is not eligible for the U18 draft. Didn't register with a U18 program. Played the full year in the GOJHL I believe

Have any teams acquired any impact players from this? (genuinely curious. Haven't paid attention)
Erie has had success in the u18 draft.
Daniel D’Amato was drafted in 2018, 1st round 4th overall. 189 GP 46g, 64a, 128pts over 3 seasons. In his OA season he was captain. He currently plays in the AHL.

Marshall Nicholls played briefly with Erie, but didn’t have the greatest stats. Drafted in 2020, 2nd round, 28th overall

Bruce McDonald is currently on Erie’s roster.

132 GP 25g, 28a 53pts over the past two seasons. He was drafted in 2022, 3rd round, 42nd overall.

Brett Hammond was one of our “rookies” this past season. His stats aren’t convincing, but he’s a big fast kid. He’s a solid fourth liner that provides consistency. 58 GP 2G, 4a, 6pts. Drafted in 2023, 1st round, 1st overall.

Jacob Julien, gavin white probably the best two. It’s not as bad of a draft as it once was, some good opportunities if teams invest

I swore I remembered seeing this somewhere. Took me a bit to find it, but...

"The Draft Lottery will determine the order of selection for the first four picks of the first round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection as well as the 2024 OHL U-18 Priority Selection (held Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00pm) along with the 2024 CHL Import Draft."

I've haven't watched any U18 hockey this year but here are some of the standouts when I look at each league stats. A reminder that last year 48 players born in 2006 were taken and 3 players born in 2005 were selected. It's far more likely 2007 born players will be taken this year.

F Ashton Darocy (Windsor Jr. Spitfires U18, 2007 born, 6'1"/163 lbs)

37 points (11G, 26A) in 35 regular season games, 11 points (3G, 8A) in 8 playoff games, 1 goal in 4 games (3 regular season, 1 playoff game) with the Chatham Maroons in the GOJHL, 1 goal and 1 assist in 1 game with the Leamington Flyers of the OJHL

C Roen Douglas (Lambton Jr. Sting U18, 2007 born, 5'9"/179 lbs)

50 PTS (16G, 34A) in 35 regular season games, 10 PTS (5G, 5A) in 10 playoff games

F Jaden Flora (Niagara North Stars U18, 2007 born, 6'/174 lbs)

53 points (26G, 27A) in 34 regular season games, 5 points (2G, 3A) in 7 playoff games, 9 points (5G, 4A) in 12 playoff games with the Fort Erie Meteors of the GOJHL

F Carter Fogarty (Lambton Jr. Sting U18, 2007 born, 5'8"/175 lbs)

42 PTS (16G, 26A) in 35 regular season games, 15 points (4G, 11A) in 10 playoff games, 1 assist in 4 games with the Sarnia Legionnaires of the GOJHL

C Trent Gates (Halton Hurricanes U18, 2007 born, 6'/161 lbs)

82 points (34G, 48A) in 33 regular season games, 10 points (3G, 7A) in 8 playoff games, played 4 games in the OJHL with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, had the most goals, assists, and points in the OMHA

F Phillip Govedaris (Markham Waxers U18, 2007 born, 5'11"/170 lbs)

38 points (14G, 24A) in 35 regular season games, 7 points (4G, 3A) in 10 playoff games, had a great performance (14 PTS in 7 GP) at the All-Ontario U18 championship

C/LW Zander Kechego (Elgin-Middlesex Canucks U18, 2007 born, 5'11"/187 lbs)

50 points (19G, 31A) in 34 regular season games, 4 points (1G, 3A) in 5 playoff games

RW Ian Lachance (Timmins Majors U18, 2007 born, 6'2"/176 lbs)

74 points (26G, 48A) in 35 regular season games, 5 points (2G, 3A) in 6 playoff games, 1 goal and 1 assist in 2 games with the Timmins Rock of the NOJHL, was named GNML MVP

F Samuel Mudie (Halton Hurricanes U18, 2007 born, 6'1"/176 lbs)

65 points (24G, 41A) in 33 regular season games, 5 points (3G, 2A) in 5 playoff games, 2 goals in 3 games with the Pelham Panthers of the GOJHL, 2 games with the Toronto Jr. Candiens in the OJHL

F Joseph Sinclair (Southern Tier Admirals U18, 2007 born, 5'9"/169 lbs)

58 points (19G, 39A) in 34 regular season games, 4 points (2G, 2A) in 7 playoff games, 2 goals in 1 regular season game and a goal and an assist in 4 playoff games with the Burlington Cougars of the OJHL

Didn't see a ton of standout defenceman stats wise and didn't include goalies because leagues only track GAA which can be very misleading.

Minor corrections -- Tate Collins is protected by an OHL Team -- Drafted last year.

Jaden Flora is still playing with Fort Erie* not St. Catherines of the GOJHL.

All are talented players listed above to consider for the U18 Draft

Cooper Drennan is not eligible for the U18 draft. Didn't register with a U18 program. Played the full year in the GOJHL I believe
You are correct.......here are the eligibility rules:

Players Eligible for Selection:
All U18 players not currently on a CHL Member Team Protected List who were carded with an Ontario-based U18 AAA Hockey Club or an accredited Hockey Canada sport school within the OHF, HNO or HEO in the 2023-24 playing season are eligible for the U18 Priority Selection.

which means that Russian born LW, Ivan Mentiukov is eligible as noted by @Petes on the Petes forum
