My best guesstimate on who will be available mid-April.

Would love to see Gavin McKenna make his U18 debut, but highly unlikely.

We're a little short on LHD so Lavoie gets the tough assignment.

Given he had the option, I wonder if daddy had to push his son (T IGINLA) to play for Canada?

I don't think young Iginla is now, or will ever be, an A Team player. but as long as he doesn't follow his father's lead and poo-poo all tournament invites that are not A Level best-on-best tournaments, then young Iginla will do. He played a decent to good U17 tournament on a team with Catton, which is why he makes this team and will most likely be available. a little organic chemistry is always a good thing.

Iginla Sr. had a bad habit of turning his phone off every spring and ignoring Hockey Canada's phone calls.

Celebrini I feel they probably don’t bother inviting, they have the “graduation” policy and he already tied the Canadian single tournament d-1 scoring record last year.

Of all of Hockey Canada's dumb internal boardroom rules...the "graduation" rule ranks probably as the dumbest that these "deep thinkers" have ever come up with. No doubt the deep thinker Scott Salmond himself came up with that.

He hasn't played a U20 tournament yet. Therefore, until he does, he makes my U18 team.

We'll see if he has in fact "graduated" by how he performs at the U20 tournament this Christmas.

In light of Misa's and Parekh's Mem Cup commitments a slight roster update...

L. Testa to take Misa's spot. and add J Fluker.

Sucks to lose Misa, but this is probably a better team. all things considered.

I don't imagine Celebrini will play for the u18 team unless for some strange reason he doesn't make the u20 team.

This is just an assumption based on certain Canadian Hockey League playoff rounds going certain ways, as well as Canadians playing in the USHL or elsewhere being permitted to go, but here is my prediction:

Ryder Ritchie - Berkly Catton - Tij Iginla
Malcolm Spence - Sacha Boisvert - Liam Greentree
Cole Reschny - Michael Hage - Roger McQueen
Jordan Gavin - Cole Beaudoin - Ollie Josephson

Matthew Schaefer - Henry Mews
Xaiver Veilleux - Charlie Elick
Anthony Cristoforo - Thomas Lavoie
David Green - Colton Roberts

Carter George - Zach Pelletier - Chase Wutzke

Sounds like Gardiner MacDougall will be coaching this team. He’s a fairly legendary coach here in Atlantic Canada. He’s fresh off of a 43-0 undefeated season with UNB in which they captured the national title, and a 2022 Mem Cup with the Sea Dogs.

Malcolm Spence?

i don't think he belongs to the u18 wjc
he is just not good enough, there are like 30 canadian u18 forwards better than him

also, Ryder Rithcie? i wouldn't pick him either, not good enough

Why wouldn't you include Ryder Ritchie he had a good Hlinka statline and that's your main criteria right?

One Medicine Hat loss away from having McKenna (and potentially Lindstrom if his back is healthy enough) on the team.

Another interesting factoid is, the tournament starts almost a week later this year than last. So, we may also get a few more A-Team Hlinka-Gretzky players become available.

Assuming the favorites and those up 3-1 prevail, and everyone available is healthy, we could have a pretty nice forward group this year. The following would all be available for selection:

Gavin McKenna
Cayden Lindstrom
Berkly Catton
Michael Hage
Sacha Boisvert
Liam Greentree
Porter Martone
Ryder Ritchie
Miguel Marques
Jett Luchanko
Malcolm Spence
Carson Wetsch
Roger McQueen
Marek Vanacker
Cole Beaudoin
Riley Patterson
Jordan Gavin
Dean Letourneau (believe he's injured)

There are also some really talented 07s potentially available (Roobroeck, Reschny, Schmidt, Kindel), but if we get the players listed above, this would be a year where we don't need to rely on underagers in the forward group.

That is a pretty strong forward group even though it is missing Celebrini, Iginla, Parascak, Sennecke, Poirier, Masse, Misa etc.

The above are confirmed available (if healthy) with the exception of Spence (game 6 tomorrow). Iginla and Parascak are facing off against each other in round two. I suspect they'll hold one spot for whichever loses. Game 7 of that series would be April 23 and the tournament starts on April 25.

These games are in Finland, right? Would we be expecting to watch them early in the AM or will they be on later?

The first U.S. game (against Slovakia) will be on at 7 am Eastern time. The first Canada game (against Sweden) will be on at 12:00 pm noon Eastern time.
