I think Kakko is getting traded at some point, more on the point of it’s getting late early in terms of how much control he has left here, and why would he want to stay here, and not at least try for a better opportunity.

However, if the Rangers are all in this year, they really should want him in the lineup for this playoff run.

PIT sports radio. Feels like the Guentzel stuff is coming down the pipe one way or another. Id rather trade Kakko then Otter or Perrault

certainly doesn't help us this year but I understand. I think most fans have had enough of Kakko but it's a shame because I think he could be a strong playoff performer if he's put in the right spot like 2022 playoffs.
Also it's probably Dubas is being "forced" to look for a good roster player and not extra picks or a prospect 2-3 years away.

I agree. If KK goes for Jake, we still need another top 9 guy. Maybe Zucker on the cheap. Otherwise, might as well keep Kakko.

Doesnt Guentzel play on the left?

If you move Kakko you have like, no natural RWs on the team

Brodz is really a center and on a playoff team should be in the bottom 6/4th line anyway
Vesey can play right but better suited on left
Laf is a natural LW, obviously has done well on the right but thats it

Does it matter? I dont see why you would want to deplete the depth on one side. I get its for a great player but hes a rental. Next year and beyond theres a huge hole there. Buch with term would be a better fit/trade for Kakko, but even then for a playoff run you want Kakko on the team, plus whoever you are bringing in.

I call BS on that

Like can you imagine Kakko signing for cheap in Pittsburgh and then breaking out playing next to Crosby next year while Guentzel re-signs with Pitts and the Rangers flame out in the 1st or 2nd round?

Kakko wont break out with Crosby in Colorado

The only way Kakko is in any deal is if the player coming back is a longer term asset. For example:

Kakko signs a 1 year deal this offseason for ~$2.4m
After that deal is up, the team has only 1 more year of control. Kakko, I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, could elect arbitration at that point and become a very young UFA. It's a tricky spot for him and the team this off-season.

So if the Rangers think there is a legit possibility that he would take the route above based on conversations with his agent, then moving him for someone like, say, Guentzel who they should know what he is asking for and feel they can accommodate for ~6 years (please no 7-8 year deal) may make more sense. Especially given the core of the team and where they are at and the lack of development of Kakko the player.

Guentzel wants a long term. It's his payday and he will get it one way or another.

The more and more I think about it I don't want a rental LW especially for two very good assets.
If that is the case go out and just send a first for Vatrano as much as most would hate it. More term. Give up half the assets

Drury moves Kakko today for Guentzel and he still has 24 hours to add a 3rd line winger. Because at that point its Cup or bust this year.
Can Guentzel play on the right?

Kreider Mika Guentzal
Panarin Trocheck Lafreniere
Cuylle Wennberg Foegele
Vesey Goodrow Brodz
