Ok, I'll ask because I'm Jennifer Coolidge stupid (ok, she's not stupid, she just plays stupid really really well). Why couldn't Ottawa just let Tara play out and walk? They got a trio of picks that are not even this summer, one of them is conditional, and they still have to pay half the man's salary.
They aren't exactly a desirable destination. I'm sure doing right by the player may help their ability to sign other NHL players in the future. At least, that is what I can come up with.

Drury playing 4D chess leaking that Othmann is not totally untouchable to drive up the price on the Canes, and signal to Ottawa, Buffalo and STL that he is willing to deal him in the right move (a top 6 F/top 4 D with term).

Im manifesting it before he trades 2 seconds for Vatrano and disappoints all of us.
That would be ideal, man I like Guentzel but another rental would be tough to stomach. Especially over Buch.

I definitely have this odd feeling that all the NYR Guentzel talks is a smoke-screen
Agreed. Pressures St. Louis to lower price on Buch and pressures Carolina or Vegas to give up more for Guentzel.

yeah except it wasn't, that was just a cope people told themselves to feel better about that awful trade.
It was a combination of the impending contract and the fact that they saw younger players like Kakko and Kravs as viable RW replacements. It didn’t work out for a number of reasons. Poor return and those guys didn’t perform as expected. Everybody makes mistakes as a GM. Except you of course. You would be awesome.

Leaks can come from more than one source. I'm sure everyone is asking for Perreault from the Rangers and they have been told no. Vince talks to other reporters around the league, especially those of teams where the Rangers have expressed interest in their players.

Not a comment directed at you, but many seem to think Vince (and other reporters) just sit around on Twitter and aggregate stuff. The better ones are at practice, they speak to staff, they speak to other team's writers, other teams' staff when they are in town for a game/practice, etc. to get info.

Yeah I think it's clear that Vince talks to people in the org and around the league, but these aren't the people who are gonna leak real breaking news, they're just gonna kinda confirm stuff that's already out there or speak in generalities. I don't think he's ever claimed to have real insider information.

If he says something then I believe it's true that's what people around the league or with the Rangers are saying, but they're not gonna leak him Drury's secret plan

If we somehow get Guentzel; is there any chance we could resign him?
If he'd take a 3 year contract sure.

But he's 30 and re-signing someone that age to a long contract is a tough thing especially when he probably would be asking for top dollar $8mill/year +

I'm curious why people here are so high on Othman anyways. I like him but nothing at all about him screams untouchable to me. He's yet to really show anything that he's going to be a full time NHLer much less a scoring threat

Renting Guentzel would be nuts on the table move by Drury. But in some ways that's how you really put the pressure on a core that so far has not been able to win the big one. I prefer not to deal a 1st and Othmann for an unsigned guy but I'd also be excited to ride the lightning the next couple months.

im just gonna re upload this like every couple hours
Maybe you can hang it from your basement rafters if the Rangers get eliminated from the playoffs. It can be your "see i was right on the internet" banner.

You can do one every year your favorite team doesn't win the championship, and only a pesky dynasty or two will get in the way of your good times...

Yes. Just some quick math if the cap is at 87.5M next season, it leaves them with 11.6M in space. Buying out goodrow bumps that up to ~ 15.5M.

Schneider 3x2.5
Kakko 2X2.5

Leaves around 10.5m for them to bring back or replace Lindgren and keep Guentzel.

They also could be moving Kakko in this deal, of course, and replacing him with an ELC next season which would add another 1.5ish of breathing room.

Definitely not out of the question and I'd expect that if they make this move, they're looking to extend him

I can't imagine Drury doesn't see how much of an issue lindgren is right now...I don't think he uses analytics solely to make decision but that he does use them in general and it's obvious the team can't keep going forward like this

Chychrun and Buch would probably cost 2 1sts and Othmann and a Sykora type of prospect

Is that worth it?

I'd be more inclined to give up a 1st + prospect for Chychrun and a 3rd for Zucker

Igor extension is another factor in these calculations. But Guentzel is signable. And maybe makes a guy like Kreider more tradeable down the road? Not saying I would do that. Also by year 2 of a Guentzel contract, Panarin and Trouba's money would be off the books. Just some variables to think about.
