I'm conflicted on his leadership ability, but bigger picture I think the two of them are huge reasons why we're not a great 5v5 team. And that's been the limiting factor for this organization for quite awhile - 5v5 play.
Yeah, agreed. If Trouba were viewed as the 4th or 5th D - if they played him like that - it would be different.

Pacioretty or Reilly Smith for two day 2 picks.

If Drury goes big game hunting it'll be the 2025 1st dealt, 2024 1st will be kept.

Those are my only predictions for today.

Amazing, we trade the least valuable player in the trade for 2 players (one with 50% retention) who are more valuable! lol
Canadian team’s not based in Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal are/have been having problems retaining U.S. hockey players.

Also disagree with your assessment that Schneider is the least valuable player in the trade.

Value is relative.
Talent is not.

Trades aren’t purely made on talent, if they were there would be hardly any trades ever made.

Trades are based on needs.
a broken old man, just what we need
ever since Wheeler went down we’re short one broken down player.

I can see those guys for sure.

Not to be discounted, but if Drury could add Smith to play with Kreider and Zibanejad and then add someone like Pacioretty fort cheap, it would push Cuylle down to the 4th line. Cuylle-Goodrow/Brodz-Vesey

Agree. That 1st for Vatrano is whats scaring me.

I believe Drury can wait and find someone for Mikas right for cheap, and also get another piece on D if hes patient

The one good thing about Vatrano is that he has term and it deepens the team for next year as well, but thats like the one thing we would have to tell ourselves not to barf

The cost is obviously bad but the fit is worse. Vatrano is not a good player and trying to remedy the Kreider-Zibanejad duo is the wrong approach.

Guentzel was a shit fit too but if the Rangers cannot go out and pay 85 cents for Vatrano after passing on Guentzel for a dollar.

Bargain bin this bitch.

Let's see,. I'll be curious what happens because given that we are supposedly in for cups now, it just seems strange we either were outbid or uninterested in almost everybody.

Also, why hold back your top assets for what's left now?
Because there needs to be a reasonable return on investment. No matter how good the player is, they are only going to move the needle so much. What we are getting has to justify the cost.

There is an argument to be had about where the line is, but there should be no argument that there is a line. Every move we make is a risk and every move we don't make is a risk. Obviously in the case of Guentzel, Drury decided that the risk outweighed the reward.

The same is true for the players who are left. We aren't going to just throw assets at them in a desperate attempt to fill our 1RW spot. If those teams want more than those players are worth to us, then we shouldn't make those deals.

How much is that ownership over Dubas/Hextall (who was an awful GM)? They want to keep selling tickets/be competitive over the betterment of the long term of the roster. They should've traded Malkin a few years ago; they haven't won a playoff series since 2018 after their back-to-back Cups (2016-2017).

They can't "rebuild" as long as Crosby is still around, and he doesn't want to go anywhere. Crosby wanted Malkin/Letang resigned, which was a mistake. Traded for Erik Karlsson, which made little if any sense. They are going to be awful next year and for a few years after that, and it was of their own making.
