Depending on his recovery timeline, Ben Harpur could be an in-house option.

Harpur was ruled out for the remainder of the Wolf Pack’s season after undergoing pectoral surgery, but he has resumed skating, according to a source.

@80shockeywasbuns did the math so you wouldn't have to. All that was already baked in. Drury made other choices.
Again, cause and effect…
Nemeth was brought in to help a young Lundkvist ( fellow countryman) acclimate and provide a vet presence on 3rd pair.
It went awfully.
Goodrow and reaves were brought in because Gorton/JD stripped this team of any and all sandpaper and leadership. It also got panarin rag dolled with no repercussions…
It took him over a year to get that effort/ tenacity back in his game…
The whole premise was not spending big/long term on another Wing.
You don’t seem to see the forest thru the trees…..
Don’t forget the Eichel rumors and various others….
The decision was made to re-allocate those resources to shore up other areas of the team… that’s all. End of story

Tuch wants to stay in Buffalo, and the Sabres love Tuch. He signed a sweetheart deal to stay there. People need to stop mentioning him as a possibility.

He signed it with Vegas.

And being on a team that consistently misses the playoffs has to take a toll, especially when...how many seasons now where Buffalo supposedly was righting the ship?

I’d wager if they miss agin next year, he starts getting pissed. Tuch performs well in the playoffs….
All sabres fans and a lot of self thought hockey experts predicted this was the 1st year of the sabres being a perennial powerhouse for the next 5-7 years…
I predict more players will want to leave…….

I think an equivalent offer from us would have been

Cuylle + Sykora + Garand + 1st

We don't have a 2nd, and if we did have a 2nd we didn't have an improved 2nd like the Philly one is, so one less back end prospect to make the 1st unconditional

I've got no idea how to compare the offers, but if this is true then I'm happy we didn't do it.

Cuylle and the first alone is too much to me for a rental in a league where we just aren't beating the teams ahead of us.

And I don't mean Carolina. We can still beat Carolina.

Boston, Colorado, Vegas? Would be an upset.

I read their 6th, 7th, and 8th ranked prospects.
I guess that’s okay? But again, they didn’t get a top five prospect. In a vacuum rather have Othmann than the three guys they moved.

I’d rather have quality than quantity

That haul for Guentzel was so weak, I'm feeling like we overpaid for Wennberg. And i don't know that we don't have to overpay for Vatrano. I might just see what Pacioretty costs and call it a day. Most of the other bottom 6 forwards that looked enticing are mostly gone now too. Meh.

Sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make.

Feels like we dodged a bullet here as I think the price for us was significantly higher than CAR. Dubas took quantity over quality. It's like Ryan McDonagh trade without adding JT Miller.

I’m fine with dealing our 1st as long as the player we get back is in our 2-3 range plans and maybe beyond. Ideally age 24-26 ish.
Bargain bin shopping and keep their 1st this year is also fine.
This team desperately needs our version of a Hagel, Verheagie, lehkonen type Swiss Army knife player.
Might not be a big name like Buch/Vatrano etc hyped TDL players, but the “right” ones.

Zetterlund and pinto are my ideal targets still.
Regaining draft capital in the offseason shouldn’t be too hard if they decide to deal a Trouba or a Kakko this offseason. I think both could potentially get a late 1st depending on the team that wants them.

It's always higher for us. Unless it's Adam Fox 🦊

I wonder if Trouba is more hurt than day to day, Lavi said day to day today, but that he was he was getting evaluated. They would never say how hurt he was before the deadline passed to kill their leverage if they are looking for a dman.

Yeah, I hear the need for a swiss army knife. I think that's what we hope Berard, Sykora or Cuylle develop into. But yeah, our next Jesper Fast/Carl Hagelin.

Zucker or Toffoli are a bit of that too.

Think it ends up as 1 of Reilly Smith, Eberle, or Zucker

Eberle could possibly fetch our 1st, but the other 2 get done with Jones + 4th or something

We're gonna see

Panarin Trocheck Laf
Kreider Zib ____
Cuylle Wennberg Kakko
Goodrow Brodz Vesey

3rd line will get matchup used against other teams top scoring line

Guentzel is coming off an injury that may or may not impact his game over the next while. Dubas got an NHL roster player, 3 prospects and a 2nd round pick (long shot at a 1st) for Guentzel. We couldn't easily give up a roster player so the prospect would have to be Othmann basically plus more, which is too expensive for a rental. The Rangers need their prospects for the roster in a season or two and/or for real hockey trades.
