I'm disappointed about the Hughes brothers. Sign and autograph, take a picture, McDavid does it and they can too.

I don't blame them, can be a bit of a hassle. As I got off the escalator, Sakic got mobbed and you could see him sigh.

Bobrovsky to his credit was happily taking photos with people. Somebody he was with was like "Sergei needs to keep walking."

I don't think it's a myth. Example, the NY Giants had a number of good linebackers in 1981. They had Carson, Kelly, Hunt, and Van Pelt. All legit NFL guys. There was, however, a clear BPA at number 2 in the draft. The Giants needed just about everything else other than LB. They were pretty bad. OK, maybe they didn't need a QB as Simms was still very young. You know who they picked and it was the correct pick. They repeated that several years later with Carl Banks and then again with Pepper Johnson. I'm sure there are plenty of quotes from teams that have selected guys based on a list of prospects that presumably ranks how good they are? I recall Fitz being quoted to that effect when Mukhamadullin was picked? I'm sure there are instances where a team selects from a tier of similarly ranked guys to go with need as a tie breaker but I'm skeptical that a team will avoid a clearly better player to pick a clearly worse player just based on position.
How old are you, anyway? Tell me about Y.A Tittle!

Here's my tier list:

Holy F**k! We won the lotto!

C Cayden Lindstrom
LD Zeev Buium

Absolutely Great, Great, Great
LD Sam Dickinson
LD Anton Silayev
LD Stian Solberg
RW/C Michael Brandsegg-Nygard
C/RW Konsta Helenius

Maybe not the "right" pick but likely a great player
LW/C Berkly Catton
RD Carter Yakemchuk
RD Artyom Levshunov
RD Zayne Parekh

Great Pick but maybe should've traded down first
C Michael Hage
W Igor Chernyshov
C Cole Beaudoin

Well, there's maybe a 1 in 100 chance we won't regret this, at least
LW Cole Eiserman
RW Beckett Sennecke

Betting on draft position of NHL prospects is some real sicko shit. My hat's off to you
It's a lot better than gambling on games, tbh.

It's a pure information market. If you get a scoop or kernel of information, and can bet it before the books adjust, you get a ton a of value. Some guys like Pronman have historically had a good read on the flow of the draft, so just always just trying to read/listen what he's thinking.

There's also some trends you can kinda blindly bet, like bigger defenseman or centers going higher than their consensus rankings, small wingers falling.

not talking to me but I'd be a bit mad if we drafted Sennecke or Parehk.

Sennecke is just not good enough to be picked 10th and Parehk is totally not needed on the Devils.

Oh and Connelly because I don't want our team to deal with someone like him.
Connelly won't be the pick. A team building around the superstar potential of two Jewish brothers isn't using a top 10 pick on a kid who was caught posting swastikas on Twitter, among other racially controversial incidents.

Somebody knows someone who spilled the beans. They will never investigate but hard to see that as anything but insider trading. I'm surprised the bookmaker took that much in one something as obscure as the third pick in the draft.
Yeah, obviously intel got leaked and someone spread it around. Or worse, was intentionally leaked for betting purposes, so a buddy could hit Buium when he was like +2000.

Draft betting is not that obscure though. Pretty much all the major sportsbooks take action on the NHL draft. There are a lot weirder bets than 3rd overall, for sure. You can get down some action on the draft position of like projected 2nd/3rd rounders.

I think Nichols may be telling it as he knows it…but I also believe he sensationalizes for clicks so it’s tough to get too into whatever he says.

I think he does but I don’t see how this is him sensationalizing. He’s just saying something we all know. He’s not the first person to say we’re talking about our pick and I’ve always thought there’s a strong chance they move it.

I have no issue trading the pick for help now. We need to win now and whoever is picked 10th is at least 3 years away and potentially longer.

Can I -- just because he's my all-time fave -- also throw in the #3 overall pick Toronto gave us for Tom Kurvers straight up which became Scott Niedermeyer?

Man, those were the days.

But holy cow, how would anyone stop a line with Jack Hughes and Demidov?
I believe Demidov has a chance to be even bigger than Niedermayer for Devils? Niedermayer was Conn Smythe level one two Norris level defenseman. Demidov can be a reason why Jack Hughes will start to produce on the McDavid level with top Hart votes every year.

So, my little north americans and euros, lets pray for NHL gms who hates Russians so much. As hard as it never been. I believe Florida and Tampa are feeling good with this hate from some NHL teams. I believe if top-9 teams will go full "Kent Hughes" brain damage road this year, we will remember this day for the next many many years.

I'm getting concerned about the amount of smoke we're seeing from reputable sources.

I want us to make the pick, but it sounds like it is indeed being actively shopped.
Who’s even realistically available though, at least besides Necas who’d be a pure luxury buy? Nobody else has been floated for the #10-15 range that I’d care about.
