Big fan of this player

I really like his teammate Marelli, too. I think he’s way underrated.

I really don't think Levshunov or Lindstrom make it past 3 OA. I don't know the order but I think that's the top 3.

Not sure who will go 4 or 5.
This is why I left Levshunov off our five player profiles for Defense:

Watched Iginla, Catton and Luvshunov.

All good players. Don't think I want any of them at 6 though.
Luvshunov is the most promising of the 3. Good player. Strong two way game with size.

Don't want any of them at 6, but if we do end up with one it id personally prefer Levshunov. Only one I think I'd use a top 10 on.
If the draft goes somewhat according to plan, my preferences are:
1 - Dickenson
2 - Lidstrom
3 - Buium
4 - Yakemchuk

After last year I fully expect the pick to be a surprise. Could GM pick Solberg or Sennecke at 6?

Dark Horse Picks for Utah in The Top 10

Konsta Helenius - They had dinner, right?

Stian Solberg - I could see this

Michael Hage - I could see this

EJ Emery - Ehhhh, seems like a stretch b/c zero goals. That horizontal jump though!

Dean Letourneau - This would be wild. The biggest reach since Blake Wheeler. Would the Mormons riot?

I have to stick up for Helenius a bit. Bob’s lottery poll has Helenius at 9th. And with only 1 top 5 vote. That means that 9/10 scouts had him outside the top 5 but he still landed at 9th. I have to think that means very few had him outside the top 10, also.

If the whole league basically thinks you’re 9th and you go sixth, that’s not too crazy.

The D are difficult to rate in this draft because the best ones in my opinion all play a different style and it can come down to what you want

Buium- not dynamic offensively or a PP specialist. But just a great mistake free game with good puck control. It will lead to points and you can count on him to eat minutes

Silayev- smooth skating shut down. Good on the breakout and while his offensive potential is likely low, he won't be a liability in the other teams zone.

Levshunov- I like the Brent Seabrook comparisons. Physical D that can play in both zones very responsibly. Not likely to be a QB but can contribute offensively.

Yakemchuk- Very offensively creative. Likes to pinch because he can read the play incredibly well. Good shot with great hands to create space for himself. Great in transition too.

At this point if I had to hope for players at 6 id have to say it'll probably be

1. Demidov
2. Lindstrom (if doctors aren't worried about him at all)

IF they are both drafted I would be very open to trading the pick. Even if its just trading down. Think getting a pick around 10ish would be great for looking at

3. Buium/ Yakemchuk/ Helenius
4. Catton
5. Senneke/ Dickinson

Going to watch Michael Hage and more Helenius tomorrow

Edit: Moving Helenius up a level with Buium and Yakemchuk. I would be very happy with any 3 of these players as well... especially if we moved down and still got any one of them. Helenius could honestly make an argument for 6. Just a great responsible two way player with offensive instincts. Could see a strong argument for him staying at center as well

Just for fun theres still a couple ways to go about the draft with all the capital we have.

Theres a chance Demidov slides to 4 still. IF Columbus isn't sold on him for whatever reason, we could offer up extra picks (Columbus doesn't have a 2nd right now) walk away with what could be a steal at #4.

OR on the other side we could move down potentially with a team like Calgary to 9 and use that drop as a chance to move up from 38 to 28. On top of that we could even offer up 28+another pick and get somewhere around 23-25.
With that avenue, they could easily walk away with a guy like Yakemchuk or Helenius and on top of that another solid 1st rounder.

Ok hear me out…I wanna know if there is any value in this. We have a ton of cap space right? CGY is ostensibly going full rebuild….what if we did a Crouse for Huberdeau swap? There’s tremendous value there for CGY getting a good player and saving money. We get a veteran leader for a young team and a player that I think can be revitalized under Tourigny in a new system that fits his strengths better.

Then, as a part of the same deal we get Andersson for just a pick swap of 6 for 28 + Soderstrom because of the value CGY is getting in the Crouse for Huberdeau swap. So this comes out to Huberdeau + Andersson + 28th for Crouse + Soderstrom + 6th. Flame away haha.

Edit: You could also then package a couple 2nds and or 3rds to move back up higher in the 1st round from 28 if you wanted…

Utah has cap space currently however, Huberdeau is signed through 29-30 which would get in the time frame of needing to give real contracts to the kids so that cap space will get sucked up fast.

Another facet is there is a false premise that if someone is a superstar on one team, in one system that this will translate on a new team in a new system. What Calgary did when they traded for Huberdeau is they tried to force a square peg in a round hole. I am not smart enough to explain this so I would defer to this exceptional breakdown...

Point being, if you are going to make a move for a Huberdeau type, then it would be vital to have a system that accommodates your $10m+ player. Does UTH want to change their system to accommodate one player?

Also, does UTH need a big name forward? If you pretend Guenther played a whole season last year and had 35g+, the Coyotes are top 10 in the league in scoring. This is weird to say but, offense is not a concern for this team so, no large cause to sacrifice for offensive help.

Dropping from 6 to 28 would mean going from a Demidov, Buium, Dickinson type to a Chernyshov, Wallenius, Parascak type. This drop would be massive. Utah would go from a significant impact player to a nice player.

Having Andersson would be nice and he would offset the loss of the high pick for sure but he is 27 and, though he is good, he is not the world beater one of those top 6 dmen will be in this draft.

If Utah was in a win now mode, maybe they make this deal but I don't think they are in that kind of space. This would be an unnecessary, desperation, move. Steady plodding is the way and shortcuts should not be taken on this rebuild imho.

BA has talked extensively about not getting locked into 'bad contracts', so I would think any trade for Huberdeau wouldn't even be considered

Huberdeau is not a 'driver'...you don't pay that type of money for a player that is a passenger. Florida knew it, which is why he was included in the trade.
