NASCAR Daytona 500 2024 Race Rescheduled to Monday Due to Weather

The 2024 NASCAR season will have to wait one more day before it officially commences.

Per ESPN, the season-opening Daytona 500 was postponed on Sunday and rescheduled to Monday at 4 p.m. ET due to inclement weather that brought "two days of rain" to Daytona International Speedway.

ESPN noted that there were already "heavy doubts" that the Daytona 500 would take place at its original start time on Sunday afternoon, as Saturday's final practice for the event and the scheduled Xfinity Series race were both canceled. The Xfinity Series race will now be held at 11 a.m. ET on Monday.

That was quite the scene.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Daytona 500 belongs to Hendrick Motorsports once again. William Byron is the 2024 winner after taking the lead on a restart with four laps to go. Byron then took the checkered flag after Ross Chastain and Austin Cindric crashed to bring out a race-ending caution after the lead pack took the white flag. Byron led a Hendrick Motorsports 1-2 finish over teammate Alex Bowman, kicking off the team's 40th Anniversary season with their record-tying ninth win of The Great American Race.
Byron's Daytona 500 win marks his 11th career Cup Series win, and comes one year after he led the Cup Series with six wins on his way to a Championship 4 spot in 2023. It also brings the Hendrick No. 24 back to Victory Lane in the Daytona 500, a place it visited three times with NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon behind the wheel in 1997, 1999 and 2005.

Good conventional stock car race at Vegas. Cool to see the kids pile into their dad's Comaro! Not gonna be another water cooler discussion but, with these races so far it's shaping up to be another good season!

I genuinely thought Reddick had him with about 4 to go, but Larson gonna Larson. An overall good race, just wish the outcome was different...

Thought Bristol was a good race weekend. I enjoyed the dirt Bristol it got better everyear but, nothing wrong with the old concrete. 54 lead changes on a short track or any track is insane.

The advent of NASCAR's Next Gen era in 2022 came with a changing of the guard on road courses. Races once giftwrapped for Chase Elliott have shifted toward a new crop of drivers: Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick and even surprises like Michael McDowell and Daniel Suarez.
Now, is the torch passing to William Byron?
Byron has now won two of the last three road course races, winning from the pole Sunday at Circuit of the Americas in dominant fashion. Leading 42 of 68 laps, he held off a hard-charging Christopher Bell down the stretch to become the first multi-race winner in the NASCAR Cup Series this season.

it's also the 40th Anniversary of Hendrick Motorsports inaugural win of 28 (1984)as all HMS teams will be base color red as 5-Larson wins pole as he also tests for the "the Double" of 1100 miles in May

Hate seeing video game boy win another one. f*** Hendrick's
More young racers are gonna come from virtual racing. Sadly because too many short tracks dirt and asphalt give way to strip malls and now Amazon warehouses. Don't knock iRacing it gets new fans and participants into racing. It's pretty challenging, fun and addictive unless your like over 60 and hate any technology. I get current older drivers and recently retired drivers not being able to use sim to their advantage but, it's here to stay and more positive than negative. I'm not a fan of Byron but, he's here to stay and kick some ass while doing it
