Player Discussion 2024 DRAFT 9th Overall Zayne Parekh RHD

Can we please just understand that age mostly means laneway for development time, and even special, insanely talented kids are most likely bad NHLers at 19/20 until they get said time to get stronger/faster/better? Amazing numbers in inferior leagues don’t mean they are this talented now, it means they are very ahead of the curve while still having plenty of room to grow. Suniev has more issues than Coronato did for how his game would translate, and Parekh wasn’t exactly shutting down junior kids. These guys just need time, even if they did put up a point or two down the stretch they’d likely just be liabilities now even if they both have varying great potential.

Hmm for some reason I thought they both played tonight
nope, the only games that make a difference tonight are MTL/CHI where the Habs should clinch, EDM/LA where an LA win locks up home ice vs EDM and I guess the FLA/NYR games since that can lock in FLA/TB and add intrigue to the home ice battle for it

So Zeev isn't dressing tonight for Minny. Seems they have the same concerns as we do with Parekh.
I wouldn't call it the same concerns, but similar. They are in a playoff spot and we simply aren't. Also both Middleton and Spurgeon returning definitely played a big part. What is similar is that the team is prioritizing just winning the game over adding a boost to the lineup.

I think the fact that it could essentially be an elimination game for them plays a big part. I think they dress him in game 1 if they make it, but not in a game where 1 defensive mistake at the wrong time can end their season. That's setting a kid up for possible failure and most teams will try and avoid that.

Just like if we make it, I would also start Parekh in game 1

I didn't get to give this game much attention. How much of a difference-maker was Zayne?
He was good. Definitely more of a rover and very aggressive joining the offensive rush, but he had a good stick and broke up some chances. Most impactful offensive dmen on the team imo.

He isn’t going to be a defensive stalwart next year, but there’s a lot of talent there.

100% Parekh will be in the NHL next season full time

And honestly, Brzustewicz didn't look far off either
All the more reason the flames would be best served moving Andersson in the offseason.

Even if brewskie doesn’t make it right away, we already have Weegar, Parekh, and Pachal as rhd options. And I’d think Weegar and Parekh would QB our respective pp units, so where does that leave Andersson?

Kinda love that he ran over Coleman as he drove center ice to score a wicked deflection goal in the slot as a teenage defenseman in his first NHL game.

What an incredibly Zayne Parekh goal to score. My main concern with him was being physically ready, there are some nasty board players in this league. That he's staying on his feet after that kind of collision with Blake indicates to me he's good to go for an NHL spot next season. #20 isn't huge or anything but he's a compact and surprisingly strong on his skates veteran of tons of physical battles. Hope the rest of the team is giving it to both of them about that play

His rushes up the ice reminded me of a prime Erik Karlsson. Just so smooth and methodical. Incredibly fun to watch.

Okay I know, I’m very modest with him.
