Huh? Source?Reminder that Habs would've picked Sennecke over him

Take Getzlaf and not AK, and you have both Getzlaf and Price and no GomezI wanted Kopitar back then and even after all that Price did, I'd still die on that hill.
Having a big #1 center, putting a ppg since 2006 instead ? History would be different. No Gomez. No many shit trades and picks to try and fail to find one.
Was to young when Price was a prospect, was he seen that much high ? I thought many where disappointed with the pick
----> @the <----There were rumors he was Ottawa's pick, but the reaction were about what we saw with Reinbacher over Michkov. People were pissed about passing Brulé. Price gained a lot of hype afterwards but it really was when he won the Calder Cup that comparisons to Roy were starting to be thrown around. Even being that good in the NHL at 20 you had people criticizing his season though. Even after a HoF career some people have never gotten over the pick or the Halak trade.

Still have McDo too. God what an awful trade. Even if McDonagh’s stock was low at the time why in sweet f*** would we have to add anything for acquiring the worst contract in the league (can’t remember if his or Drury’s was worse).Take Getzlaf and not AK, and you have both Getzlaf and Price and no Gomez
At the time of the draft he was very well regarded (#1 ranked North American goalie) but wasn't necessarily considered to be the next superstar goalie on draft day. There was a lot of disappointment in the pick mostly because we already had Theodore/Halak/Danis in the system and there was the obvious need for a high octane forward, and people really fell in love with Gilbert Brulé as a fit. The reaction was pretty similar to Michkov/Reinbacher for similar reasons (passing on the perceived solution to our lack of star power to take the less exciting player at a position of strength)Was to young when Price was a prospect, was he seen that much high ? I'd bring Halak back right now and kick Primeau to waivers.----> @the <----

I don't think people were disappointed, but they were confused. We needed a big, righthanded centerman. That was the refrain back then. We passed on many good ones from the Kostistyn draft and they passed on Kopitar here (lefty, but size - was a different game before the lockout). Brule was probably the favorite I guess. But losing out on Crosby was the big disappointment. At the time of the draft he was very well regarded (#1 ranked North American goalie) but wasn't necessarily considered to be the next superstar goalie on draft day. It didn't take very long for the hype to pick up though. He was always considered a top goalie prospect but his world juniors and AHL playoff performance/Calder Cup MVP rocketed the projection to the stratosphere. That's about when the Jesus Price stuff started with Price being seen as the next in line to the Plante/Dryden/Roy lineage of Habs greats and a fringe-generational goalie talent. Nobody since has really come close to that level of hype, goalies just don't get picked high like that anymore and the hype around Price was in a different stratosphere to eg. Carter Hart or Spencer Knight in recent years.
The thing you have to keep in mind is this was 20 years ago now and the NHL wasn't full of gigantic goalies at that time. Price at 6'3 was considered a BIG goalie. Back then you had a lot of smaller "skill" goalies in the 5'10-6'1ish range and then you had some big guys who didn't move as well as they do today. Price got so much hype because he was a big goalie who had a perfect technical/positional game, elite hockey IQ, elite puckhandling skills (which was a bigger deal back then), elite intangibles/composure, and still had the agility and athleticism to make desperation saves at 6'3.
Huh? Source?
He’s got a good shot at being a first ballot HOFer. He deserves it but his career was shortened due to injury. He was absolutely incredible though. I think he gets in over Getzlaff this year.He was considered the best goalie prospect in a very long time. People were upset because we had Theodore at the time so felt it wasn't the right use of the pick and people really wanted Brule.
After his draft though, his performance at the WJC, and then winning the Calder Cup and Butterfield trophy at 20 after he ended his junior career.
He was a generational goalie prospect and definitely lived up to that.
I was upset with it. We hadn’t had a scoring forward in forever. But that changes pretty quickly. Price just kept winning and winning. Saw him win the Calder cup in Hamilton. Then he came up and was lights out in his first year. Really special player.I remember people being upset that the Habs grabbed a goalie when Gilbert Brulé was available.
The Habs with Getzlaf and Kopitar as centers #1a 1b would have lead the team to a Stanley cup, no doubt in my mind. No need of Price and his albatross of a contract that lead to nothing in the end.Take Getzlaf and not AK, and you have both Getzlaf and Price and no Gomez
I know what you’re saying. I don’t watch the minor leagues much. I’ll watch a couple of players but that’s about it.oh, i remember that draft like yesterday. At the time i lived in Ottawa and a friend organized a draft party at his place on the south shore of MTL. I drove early enough in the morning to be there in time. Big BBQ and fun for everyone until that draft started. Whem MTL drafted Price you should have seen people's reaction.... I never seen a party stop that fast. I stayed a bit but I was so disappointed to have driven all that distance for all that.
looking back, it was the good choice and I told myself to never get too carried away when a team draft a player, one way or the other, because... I know much less then them lol.
1. Price will likely go into the HOf before Getzlaff. The Habs with Getzlaf and Kopitar as centers #1a 1b would have lead the team to a Stanley cup, no doubt in my mind. No need of Price and his albatross of a contract that lead to nothing in the end.
You can’t cherry pick like this though. Getzlaff was much later. That was a crazy draft though.Take Getzlaf and not AK, and you have both Getzlaf and Price and no Gomez
I mean we went almost to the SC final with him in 2014 (and probably to the final without his injury) and to the final in 2021. He had the same impact of those guys if it’s not more. The Habs with Getzlaf and Kopitar as centers #1a 1b would have lead the team to a Stanley cup, no doubt in my mind. Was to young to remember this draft but hard to not take the big center who was ranked 5 on the central scouting list and take a player with health problemYou can’t cherry pick like this though. Getzlaff was much later. That was a crazy draft though.
It’s not often we get a consensus on the first rounder we take. Caufield was one - huge steal. And then Demidov. In both cases we were really lucky to get the player.
Nine picks later. Two other centers before him.I mean we went almost to the SC final with him in 2014 (and probably to the final without his injury) and to the final in 2021. He had the same impact of those guys if it’s not more.

Hello fellow daddy! I guess you also know Ivan Demitaines?Ivan Demidov? More like Ivan Du rêve, am I right?

I feel like MSL is abit amateur at coaching for demidovs talent, what do you think?I'm worried we have the wrong people in place to develop his massive talent and potential. GTFO MSL and his cronies, then I'll be excited.
