Wonder if the Jets go after Brock Nelson for 2C. Big bodied guy, some physicality, offensive chops, slots in nicely as 2C and can be the guy to muck it up in the corners for the two smaller shifty wingers.
I love what Names is doing but come playoff time I think I'd rather have someone like Nelson up at 2C and move Names down the lineup as first guy to move up in case injuries strike.
$6m in cap, 33 years old, UFA after this year. Pure rental likely as I don't think we want to pony up for him at his age. No idea what you give up, the 1st is likely the main piece there. He's from Minnesota so I could see Minny being aggressive and going after him.

Granlund is another one I'd be looking into, $5m in cap, 32 years old, slots in at 2C. Smaller guy, more speed than Nelson, not as physical but better defensively. 1st is likely the main piece here as well. Possible resign if he does well but still on the older side so with caution.

There aren't much upgrades out there for D. Especially RHD. We might have our upgrade in house for next year. We will probably just go out and get ourselves some depth adds there and call it a day unless someone with term becomes available.

Nelson looks like what the Jets valued Monahan as. Has size and a great shot that he uses to score a lot from in close. And better play driving than Monahan.

What worries me about the fit is the same thing that happened with Monahan. We are removing a great transition and defensive center in Namestnikov for a guy who will help us score more, but hurt a bit in breakouts and transition where this line excels.

Someone mentioned it earlier in this thread. We are discussing this line's consistency offensively all over this thread. But what we aren't discussing is how this line is once again our 2nd strongest defensive line.

They give up basically half of what the first line gives up on the score sheet. Maybe the focus for what is actually our 3rd line (Ehlers line) should be less on how much they score, and more on how much they outscore.

As has been mentioned also... they are scoring as high per minute as our top line for the 2nd straight season. We traded a 1st round pick last year for a guy that was a great PP bumper and a saw-off at 5v5. I'm not sure I see the need to try that again.

If we are looking for a 6'5 guy that can play, I'd rather pay out the ass to get one that is right handed and plays in the top four on defense...

But seriously what about Schmaltz? Price won't be low but he could be a good 1.5 year bridge to get to Yager as the 2 C and be a pretty cost effective stop gap in that time.

100% agreed. Trading a first, even a late one, is not a great idea, especially at/near the trade deadline when prices are higher and for a team that needs the magic beans. Other than the PP, I think the team was better without Monahan. I would be very hesitant to mess with this line-up in a significant way, and I wish they were more hesitant last year. Unless you're trading assets for a longer term solution, or a Stastny falls into your lap again, I wouldn't be bidding on the Cs available at the TDL.

Namestnikov is not an exciting 2C, but he holds water and the team as a whole performs well with him in that slot.

we're still a ways away from TDL so a lot can change. however, i can still see the Jets moving a 1st at this year's TDL. the team is performing extremely well and i bet chevy will reward them by loading up and augmenting the roster. and i also don't doubt the players pushing for that too.

Yeah I'm hesitant too, I really like what Names has brought to that line but it's gonna be tough to find an available defencemen. Maybe if Calgary starts to falter Andersson or Weegar could be available but they are playing well enough to be in a playoff spot so I doubt they will be sellers if they remain in one at the deadline.

I think last year's trades were predicated on 3 things. Special teams struggles, Faceoff struggles, and injuries.

So far none of the 3 are concerns. I don't know if you knock Namestnikov out of that 2c spot, because he fits the line well. Skating seems to be at a premium this year for the Jets too. I'd be more inclined to have someone in the lineup who could replace Perfetti in the top 6, if he struggles, and for all his struggles Lambert might still be that guy. I think it's more of a Moose problem with him, but I haven't watched them play, so it's speculation.

3 LD is the only position the Jets conceivably want to upgrade for a playoff run.

Everything else is depth.

I proposed on the main boards trading Chibrikov for Ridly Greig, who is young enough to still be sent to the A, as a way to keep depth, and maybe a guy who could get Lambo going, have a little more sandpaper to bring up on the depth chart, and another guy who could potentially fill out a 2C role if called upon.

I think that with the Cap space, instead of going big the Jets could bring up some of their young guys for a run, especially if the Moose are a non playoff team.

Save some draft capital for improvement.

Because I think you are going to have a hard time taking anyone out of the winning recipe this year. Only spot in contention in the 3LD.

Yeah it's looking to way to me too.

Stan may still get a lot better one day. But as of today, bringing in someone with size that is more effective on 5v5 and the PK, and could play top 4 in case of injury would be huge.

Honestly, with hindsight on our side, Brendon Dillon was a perfect fit to keep around and wouldn't have cost any picks...we got caught chasing Monahan instead i guess. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20.
