Haven't watched one second of Sam O'Reilly...
but those numbers.. draft+1... on the London Knights..

Not good. At all.

Don't tell me he's projected to be a 3rd liner...
Draft+1 You better start scoring. No matter what you're projected to be.

I was originally concerned with his numbers from last year and was informed it was a deep team and that he will have an expanded role this year. Seems that was true for a bit but his team pushed him down a bit cause they didn’t like him in that role.
That said, it seems more magnified but how well Nicholl is doing.

Like I posted earlier, he really wasn't in an offensive role. He was playing between two of the best 20 year olds in the OHL along with the best defenseman in the CHL(maybe the best player in the CHL not named Gavin McKenna even). He was always the guy sitting back, so Dickinson could do whatever he wanted.

O'Reilly isn't in the usual D+1 situation where a guy gets more minutes and more PP time. He still playing hard defensive minutes without much PP time.

Halttunen coming back should be good news for O'Reilly. They'll reunite the best line in the OHL(because that's what they're doing...it has nothing to do with the coaches being disappointed with O'Reilly. The Hunters love players like O'Reilly to a fault) and let O'Reilly play on a line that will run their offense through the forwards more.

wait till we find out what pick we traded for that packs. The pick is 2025 top 10 protected. Right now we traded 18th overall for a 32nd overall pick. I admit I do no know much about the guy but the trade for me did not make sense at the time and with him sitting 9th in pts on his team in JR? Oiler management is frustrating at the best of times. If we traded our first for a guy who was in our lineup right away? I could understand that. But after we drafted this guy? Nearly all scouting reports had him 3 to 4 years away from seeing any proper time in the NHL and that is my concern. I think Oiler scouts and management fell in love with the "his team won the Memorial cup last season". What I find amusing is William Nichol who the oilers took in the 7th round from the same team has 3 more goals and 5 more assists and the stats I saw has him playing more minutes that Sam. Now that really concerns me. But tracking JR minutes is difficult depending on which website you are using.

WE are in a win now mode and drafting a guy that is far from the NHL. But I have been ranting about the way we have been trading picks away now for about 5 years.

in another thread I posted all the pick in the first 4 rounds we traded and have nearly nothing to show for and it is mind boggling. We traded several picks because we added them to deals to trade out bad contracts.

I think the trade for Bjugstad reallt made no sense or was Arizonas gm adamant about wanting Kesselring. I thought a 2nd and a 3rd for Bjugstad would have sufficed.

The list is very long and it will get longer as we do more trades. We are in win now mode but due to some decisions we knew at the time were bad (Nurse, 2 2nd for AA and others) the contracts we gave out that went bad so quickly(Yams, Kassian, Arviddson, Jeff Skinner) and trades like trading for Griffen Reinhart--I thought it was a good deal till I saw what was on the NYI board and found out oilers had not seen him play since his Oil King days. After the ten years of darkness we are now the Gang that cant shoor straight. We lost a lot of speed and it is showing. We lost youth and wend old and slow.

I said I would not panic till game 20--we are at 19. For the oilers oilers need the oilers pipe line is dry. Some are hoping Savoie will help but I saw his last 2 AHL games on line and he is nowhere near ready for the NHL.

But the biggest mistake was not realizing how badly Broberg wanted out of the organization. He was worth so much more than a 2nd and 4th. We should have moved him at the draft table.

it is a long season and the oilers are going to give us a lot more grey hairs this season

Agreed on Broberg for sure but we did get an addional 3rd and Fischer but I am one of his biggest fans and find myself hoping he doesn't reach the potential I think he could

Hopefully they get on that. To be honest, I don't know what the norm is in situations like his, but my PTSD kicks in when I see things like this.
These posts made me curious so I went and looked it up and it seems like the team let go of their Russian scout Naurov this year and currently don’t have anyone operating over there. With no transfer agreement in place they control his rights indefinitely but still odd that they’ve had no contact.

Is it odd?
This is an org that straight up FORGOT about Blumel.
I wouldn’t be shocked to find out they didn’t even know they drafted him.

I'm not surprised. This organization has never prioritized development going back decades and there's nothing this current regime has done that makes me think that has changed one bit.

It would be just like this crew of big brains to just let another draft pick disappear into nothingness.
It would be beyond stupid. You need to bring a guy like that over. Maybe he's just a Yakimov but if there's a chance that he can develop into a top 9 NHL player (IMO there is) you need to at least keep dibs on him and let him know that there's a contract waiting for him if he wants to try hockey in NA.
