Not sure what you’re angry about here. They offered him a contract, he hasn’t signed it. Nothing to suggest Ross is not doing anything else while they wait.
I can see why they’re angry. It’s proof that big ticket free agents use the blue jays to leverage deals from teams that they actually want to go to. Meanwhile he’s nickel and dimed our homegrown star player who actually wanted to stay.

Burnes was and is never coming here and Bo and Vladdy are gone. No way I want Atkins making the deadline deals.

Agents use every team for leverage. Still doesn’t explain calling him a pus?y for offering Burnes a contract.

Offering him a contract isn’t the issue. Not giving him a deadline is the issue. “Jays interested” has become a meme at this point.

He needs to have a backbone and say something like “let us know by this day or we’re going in a different direction”.

So you’re sure that would seal the deal? Or would he then be an idiot for blowing our chances when Burnes says no thanks?

The FO has done plenty wrong, and it’s probably why we’re having trouble getting a star FA to take our money, but continuing to make offers and try and stay on good terms with powerful player agent’s isn’t one of them.

What’s that going to prove? And who’s to say he hasn’t said it. Regardless, it’s been speculated that Burnes want to play on California anyway. Not signing him would be a blessing anyway, that contract won’t be good

That seems like a really good strategy if your goal is to never sign anyone.
Didn’t realize I’d cause this much of a stir. All I’m trying to say is that that it’s obvious that Burnes is using the blue jays. Imo we’ve struck out one too many times on big names and I believe Atkins has no backbone and gets walked over.

I’m a lifelong blue jays fan that’s disappointed in management because we’ve been “interested” in players but clearly haven’t prioritized signing our homegrown developed talent.

I share your frustration, but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. If the reports are true and we have the highest offer, it’s possible after sitting down with his family that he decides to take it.

What about the free agents they have signed in the past though? 90 percent of the teams are used as leverage. I mean shit even the Yankees lost the Soto sweepstakes. The hatred for Atkins and Shapiro needs to be dialled down a few notches.

Yeah, and the worst case scenario is that it forces an opponent to up their offer. That's not necessarily a bad thing either since most teams are on a budget.

Management's done a terrible job of adding to this team the last year+, but the response should be to stop falling short and make shit happen, not to throw up their hands.
