Rodgers will be gone by time the new league year starts.

The fact he was poking fun at getting cut by one of Woody's sons on McAfee's show indicates he knows it's coming.

How bad are the Cowboys?

"The Cowboys have lost five times by 24 points or more this season, and that leads the NFL. The only team that can hold a candle to that is the Carolina Panthers, who have lost four such games. The entire rest of the NFL? Two or fewer."

Why exactly is Rex Ryan not worth getting another shot?

Took Jets to back-to-back AFC Champ games and its not like his Bills were disaster (8-8 and 7-8 with Tyrod Taylor at QB)

I am not sure how Rex Ryan became some "OMG LOL disaster" of a HC narrative. Hell, it could be argued he did better than should have been expected with Sanchez and Smith at QB during his time in New York

Also, the Jets situation is not appealing so Rex could very well be best possible candidate for job willing to take it

What does Rex Ryan bring at this point? He's been out of coaching a long time. His network of coaches he worked with are dispersed or are out of the league. He's a defensive coach who left the game before this modern passing attack really took hold, so he's never coached against it. His knowledge of current rosters is no better than your average fan at this point.

Ultimately he's a guy who hasn't been a coach for nearly a decade and has a career losing record while only having taken a team to the playoffs twice in 8 years.

While active, he was, at best, a replacement level NFL coach.

The last time Rex Ryan coached a team to an above .500 record was nearly 15 years ago back in 2010.

I hope the Jets do go with him for the entertainment.

Rex can coach a Defense. But, who were his OC's? He isn't the type to help develop a QB. That's the main drawback for a lot of these Defensive HC looking for a second opportunity, like Carroll, Flores, Saleh, etc. How can they help a young QB? Carroll's solution was a great D and a strong run game. He did know to limit the playbook to what the QB could do, so there is a plus for him.

Quinn hired Kingsbury to help with Daniels. Mayo, hired Van Pelt. And Mayo hasn't had a good season. But, Maye has looked overall good given what his weaknesses were identified as coming out of the draft. While Eberflus took on Waldron and both got fired.

Can he still coach a defense?

Bills were a top 5 defense in points and yards the year before he arrived and then ranked 19th and 19th in yards and 15th and 16th in points. The Jets were a bottom half defense his last 4 years there.

You have to go back to 2010 to find a Rex Ryan defense in the top 10 in points allowed. The Jets were an elite defense in 2009 (#1 in points allowed) and very good in 2010 (#6) and basically Ryan has been coasting on the reputation of an elite defense coach since then despite being middle of the road at best in every year since then.

Yeah, the last time we saw Rex his defenses didn't rank all that well in his final two years with Buffalo. Admittedly, points allowed isn't the best way to rank a good defense so maybe the underlying numbers were better but I remember it being pretty ugly for him towards the end there. He has been out of it way too long.

Yea it's not ideal. But it's usually safe to say that if your defense is bottom half or bottom third in both yards and points allowed, at the very least it isn't an elite unit.

Another way of saying this is there's a reason he's not been on any team's radar as a coaching candidate all these years. The only reason his name is even coming up now is because football media knows the Jets are run by morons.
