A quick recovery time for a meniscus surgery probably means that they've only done a little removal of tissue instead of a full repair. It's good temporarily, but very often leads to an arthritic knee later down the line.

I'm not sure this is as good as it sounds. Z might have significantly shortened his career.
If he's going to develop arthritis in that knee, it will be well past his playing career.

Arthritis from injury is typically a cartilage condition. He had a ligament repair. These should have little in common. The only long term concern, during his playing career at least, should be that the ligament in question is slightly weaker now.

Of course it's not good, but it clearly could have been worse.
All joint inflammation can (does) cause cartilage damage. The keys are how much, how severe, and how long.

Also, the meniscus isn’t a ligament. It’s a piece of cartilage that sits between the femur and tibia and acts like a shock absorber. There’s one on both the inside and the outside of the joint.

Third serious injury in the last two seasons for Z, on top of the negative impact Cronin has. I wouldn’t have thought it was possible a couple years ago, when Z was coming off his second back to back 60 point season, but there’s a chance he could bust.

Small chance, SMALL. I’m saying small. But two years ago I’d have said zero.

He was our best forward before he got hurt. I’m sure he’ll be fine.

This team sure feels a lot less dangerous offensively with him out.

Big sad if that happens. I’ve almost resigned myself to the idea that the Verbeek era might be a huge failure. Wouldn’t be surprised if we fail to develop any of the young players into elite talents capable of carrying the franchise for the next 10+ years.

"It was unfortunate he got hurt because he was starting to play really well," Ducks coach Greg Cronin said after a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. "Trevor is a very offensively gifted player, but I think he was playing hard defensively, too, and winning puck battles along the wall, which again is a compliment to his game, his compete level. It's a blessing to get him back in six weeks, not six months. We have a hard time scoring, so it's going to be good to get him back."
