I question how much leeway the AHL GM really has. How much is he handcuffed by verbeek?

I do remember there being some basic availability issues in San Diego though, like they weren't prepared well enough for things. That's a problem.

Newel Brown.. You will not be missed.. Now bring in someone who can turn this PP and PK around..

We moved on from PP coach Brown and dev coach Johnson. PK coach Thompson remains.

Brown was inconsistent last year, but Thompson's PK unit just kept on deteriorating from the start. Compare the PK splits with Stother's last year and the fact he didn't have quality defenders, Stothers' group did improve throughout the season until the TDL. I'm not surprised Thompson stayed b/c it was his first season with Anaheim and he's got ties with Cronin due to their history with the NYI. Still, that's decaying over the season is very worrisome.

Yeah, although that could also be the Ducks allowing him to save face by leaving for personal reasons rather than being fired. As you indicate later, there just isn't enough information for us to know.

We kept Thompson this off-season and he had a terrible season, but he's a Verbeek pick.

As for 2022 hires, DiMaio and Craig Johnson where hired then by Verbeek. DiMaio was hired as Ducks' assistant GM and Gulls GM, as per hockey rumors reporting. Johnson was hired as an assistant coach at the NHL level, replacing Geoff Ward's departure. DiMaio left for personal reasons and Johnson's contract wasn't renewed.

Asst coach Ward came from the Murray era and spearheaded the PP unit with Brown. Ward was the offensive genius out of the duo, but Ward left for personal reasons after the 2021-22 season. Verbeek kept Brown for an additional two seasons.

Ward did end up coaching the next season in the NL-A (Swiss league) in early Nov. He's been coaching there for the past two seasons.

I believe DiMaio left the org just like Ward left the org b/c I don't see a lot of negative factors since Verbeek is happy with the kid's development in the AHL.
