Thanks for posting that. I felt like at times they were just repeating things they already said, but obviously they were geeking out over him and they were very detailed about the things he does. As someone who never played, those details are very educational.
I hope they do Michkov and Hutson.

In this compilation courtesy of the PDOcast, obviously a lot of high skill, high IQ plays but a few maybe underrated ones:
Starting at 23:15 the way he denied Crosby 1v1 in the neutral zone when Crosby pounced on a high turnover.
28:55 that bunt by choking way down on his apparently extra long stick, seems simple but i don't know many players in sharks history would even try that play, let alone execute it perfectly. there are several other bunts in this video.
29:46 the casual perfection of that carom, i'm a huge fan of a good carom game. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a player mess that up, getting it from the goalie out of the net and skating toward the forechecker somewhat unexpectedly as the last man back is already a stress situation, many players would pound it to the boards without much control, or try to rag it back and lose control, resulting in a delay or regroup, allowing the opposing team to increase forechecking. many times that turns into a 50-50 puck if not a turnover. but he caroms it at a remarkably deep angle to get it to granlund in stride for a 100% zone exit. which then turns into a 10-bell scoring chance that requires a save of the year candiate to stop.

Five games in a row without a point for Michkov and -8 in that stretch.
Michkov: 27 points in 32 games (0.84 ppg)
Celebrini: 23 points in 24 games (0.96 ppg)
Celebrini is ahead now; no question about it.
Lots of season left though. It’s going to be fun to watch!

I fully expect Celebrini to have a few more pointless game streaks this season. He was honestly was pretty close to scoring against the Avalanche (post) and Oilers (2 vs 1) last 2 games.

Hutson has 14 pts in his last 12 games, and has gone pointless in only 1 of those games.
He's now only 2 pts behind Michkov

Oh for sure. They’ll both have more pointless streaks.
I do think Celebrini will finish with a better ppg though.

He has 14 even strength points and 11 powerplay points this year. Tied for 9th in points for all defensemen as a rookie.

Boy this thread has suddenly gotten real slow. Celebrini is facing the league's best teams and the Sharks are getting punked nightly but the kid seems to still be doing his thing and is continuing to get points even in these very disadvantageous situations.
Funny how us shark fans were told we only come out when Celebrini is doing good and go into hiding when he isn't (only time that has happened is when he was out injured).
But as soon as michkov goes very very cold his supporters are all of a sudden no where to be found.

Michkov has dropped to third after Celebrini and Hutson
The second half of the season is definitely the toughest for rookies, I think Michkov ends up with ~60 points, and Celebrini gets 60-65 points in 70 games. Although Celebrini is extremely talented I think he misses going PPG by about 5 or more points. Rookies are normally hot to start the season and as teams adapt and the season wears on its extremely difficult to keep up PPG pace.
Celebrini is my calder favorite for sure and I'll be surprised if he's dethroned. Hopefully these guys can stay healthy. Last year Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson missed time.

Not if he continues to be the worst rookie in plus/minus. Might be silly but a rookie defensemen that is on pace for -35 will be criticized harder then a forward that is on pace for the same -35.

Last time a rookie defenseman hit 60 pts was Lidstrom in 91-92
Best active player is Hughes with 53
So if he hits 60, he'll be a strong contender for sure but I still think Celebrini is the favorite to win

He has been on the ice for 8 empty net goals against and 0 empty net goals for and is only -14. Plus minus is a really bad statistic to be using against a player on a team near the bottom of the standings.
Nick Suzuki and Jake Evans are the only players on Montreal that have a positive plus/minus and they are both +1.

He might finish 3rd but right now Celebrini has been on the fast track to be the frontrunner and I doubt Michkov stays in this funk much longer.
If Celebrini keeps up his strong 200 foot game he might start pulling away with it in the new year.
Right or wrong some voters are going to look at Hutson and his -14.
Frankly I'm not sure who I would put 4rd right now, could be Wolf but if he ends up playing in only 40ish games I dunno.
Maybe it's bad luck, like with EK65 in his last Norris yer but one would think that he might have a better ratio if he really was that much of a difference maker?
It's also hard to say how many voters will be traditional, ie counting stats versus how many look at advanced stats as well.

For being a montreal canadien player, hutson fans aren't overyly crazy like philly fans are when it comes to michkov.That’s okay. Hutson fans have been here all year long.

He could well be the favourite right now. He’s been awesome and his production is actually accelerating.
