It actually hurts my heart to stop and reflect that his last game may have been lifting the Stanley Cup.

Yes, incredible way to go out if you have to, but going from the very pinnacle of the sport to never being able to play again. Pain. Pain. Pain.

I see two outcomes.. He plays in the playoffs if humanly possible, and then goes on LTIR for good.

Or he plays, and continues to play. I just don't think he's done until he knows a 100% he can't go.

Yea the fact that we currently have 0 cap space for him tells me that he's not coming back this year and next year it's just too late.

I think they just are going to deal with whatever happens when they know more. Or they are going to make the magic bean happen in the playoffs. They typically don't operate that way though.

Game 3 of the finals. Last time he scored for us. 2 goals in that game. Finished 2nd for us in the playoffs with 11 goals.

First goal of game 3 classic Landeskog. Took a beating in front of the net and got a rebound past Vasilevsky.

Second goal of the game, absolute snipe walking in off the left faceoff circle. He looked so jacked up after that goal.

f*** I miss him so bad.

Ok. Now get a great 3C and a solid LD by the deadline and we're cooking. Gourde, Nelson, I don't know.

Drouin - MacK - Rants
Lehky - Mitts - Nuke
Colton - Gourde - LOC
Wood - Ivan - Kelly/Kivi

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Ferraro - Malinski
CDH

BetterWood
GoodWood

I like it. Ferraro is just an example. That should be competing for a cup, but we know we ain't getting a healthy Avs team that much we know.

I can't take another Foppa, best friends favorite was Sakic, mine was Foppa.

I am not like most people where I avoid hoping for something because it's unlikely. I still hope he returns like Mario and destroys.

If he doesn't, it was a beautiful death.

Absolutely no way I can like this post, even though I feel every word. But damnit... I hope there's no reason to go there yet. I'm hoping he can at least get on the ice and give it an honest try. I hope he's allowed that much at least.

I bet he does it for the playoffs even if he's not comfortable. As long as it's not going to cause him long term issues, I'll be ok with that being goodbye if that's how it goes.

He's not giving up, we know that.

Landeskog is my current favorite player. Obvious reason. He will be until I know he won't play again and goes into the history books. Absolute warrior

Yeah, Gabe is serioulsy one of the last people on earth I actually I look up to.

I can do nothing but hope he has a chance to end things on his terms.

I don't see much of a difference between 3 or 4 years off. Either way it's been too long to not be rusty as hell. It'll truly be too late in 29/30 because his contract will have expired.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Lehkonen - Mittelstadt - Nichushkin
Kiviranta - Colton - O’Connor
Wood - Ivan - Kelly
Wagner/Smith

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
de Haan - Malinski
Kylington/Ludvig

Blackwood
Wedgewood

This is a solid team. No glaring weaknesses. If, and yes it’s a massive if, we can get and stay relatively healthy, I have no doubt we comfortably make the playoffs.

Acquisition priorities leading up to the TDL:

1. Better partner for Malinski.
2. A third line winger IF Landeskog can’t be back for the playoffs.
3. Dump/waive/demote Ludvig and Smith.

I really think it needs to be a 3C we get if Landy isn't coming back. Heck, since you're not so keen on him being 3C, even if he is coming back we need a 3C. We need to plan on a top six going down and Colton is the best option to move up as a winger. If that happens we need center depth more than winger depth, no?

Sure, I could be swayed to it being a center. They generally cost more than a winger, though.

If I could choose, I’d like Jake Evans. UFA at season’s end, elite PKer, would be a great addition to the bottom 6.

Yeah, I'd be good with that. I love Ivan Ivan, but I just don't think he's ready yet. Give him a couple of years and he might be a 3C but as a 22 year old 4C in the playoffs is asking a lot of him. I think that's why Bednar likes Parker so much. He's a got a few years of maturity on Ivan. I'm not really comfortable with either being the 3C if needed in the playoffs for a long time though.

Looking at Evans, he's 28 and on a bad Montreal team is actually 4th on the team in xGF% at ES... 48.79. I think we can read a bit into this and see he would probably perform better on stronger team. He looks like he's good for about 25ish points, He's drawn more penalties than he's taken. He's given hits, taken hits and has won more than 50% of his faceoffs. Out of curiosity, what drew your attention to Jake? I admit, I don't follow the league near as closely as many but this seems like it would be a great get.

Jake Evans would be an amazing get. He's basically a center version of Logan O'Connor. He's an ideal 4th line center, and Montreal has been basically forced to use him as their 2C at times just because he plays so consistently well.

I see two likely outcomes also.

Your first one, and not your second one.

I like the players you have listed, but would make some changes to the lines.

I don’t like Lehkonen and Nichushkin on the same line. More importantly, I have a feeling Mittelstadt doesn’t either.

Also would keep Colton on the wing, play Kelly at 3C if they can’t make a trade. Kelly is a black hole offensively - he has hands that make Cody McLeod look like Alexi Kovalev- but I like the way he plays hockey otherwise.

One name forgotten is Boone Jenner. He had a shoulder injury 4th of October and he's missing "up to six months". Should be back late March/early April.

Fantastic fit as a player. Him as 3C would be amazing. 3,75M cap hit and is UFA in 2026.

I've wanted Jenner on the Avs for a long, long time. Dude is a gamer and deserves a deep playoff run.

Not sure how the cap hit works for us though unless we're not resigning Rants - it would be a lot to spend on our top 9.

Same here. Been drooling after him for many seasons.

If Cbj retains, he should be affordable. 1,5M retained should cost maybe ~3rd + B prospect extra. Jenner's cap hit would be 2,25M, I'd imagine we could afford that.

Jenner (1,5M) retained for 2026 1st, 2025 2nd and OO.

I'd only consider moving that 1st though if the team earns it. If they're barely making the playoffs, I don't think I'd do it, as much as I'd value Jenner here.

Serious question, Blackwood back stops us to a deep run, and gets some Vezina love. *I will not jinx shit lol.

You're staring down having to choose between keeping Blackwood and Drouin, or paying Mikko.

What do you do?
See ya Moose!

If he had 1/10th of Lehkonen's GAF on a shift-by-shift basis I might feel otherwise.

I have to think now that he's (at least temporarily) sorted out the goaltending situation, CMac's next project is exploring all the possible trade options with Rantanen. If they can't find the right trade they'll probably have to re-sign him but that likely means losing some serious depth down the road.
Fair. I have a feeling that our whole squad will start to show us something now that the GM got an upgrade for Georgiev.
I have the same feeling :highclap:
