The Avs internally and publicly believe in Georgiev and Annunen yet several reporters have confirmed the Avs tried to land Askarov last summer.

Yeah, colour me skeptical. Perhaps they are willing to let Georgiev figure it out until TDL but I am very certain the Avs trade for a goaltender this season.
Askarov was never going to replace Georgiev this season. That's not why they wanted him.

Doesn't matter. Avs were obviously questioning their goaltending in the summer. All their goalies have done since is post the worst numbers since the early 90s Senators. And we're to believe the Avs are now confident in their guys?

Lol. Ok.

Confident, hell no. Hand cuffed is more likely. I can't imagine any trade bringing in a goalie doesn't also involve Georgiev going the other way or in a separate but immediate deal for cap implications. And our cap situation is about as clear as muddy water right now.

As much as I hate to say it, if Georgiev can avoid being the reason we lose, we should be riding him and saying he's a our number 1, while actively watching other teams and as the season progresses try to find one who maybe has a better candidate than what is currently out there.

Along those options, would there be any interest in trying to get Quick out of NYR if they continue to struggle? He's running a .971 HDSV, and a 7.51 GSAA this season and that is only a six game sample size for him and at his age, durability is a major concern. But if those numbers continue to hold, he's on an expiring 1.275M contract.

Confident? Of course not.

Not willing to pay what it would cost for someone that may or may not work like Blackwood or Gibson? Now that's likely.

They'll replace Annunen at the deadline for a low end vet that won't play in the playoffs. Like that time they traded for Dubnyk.

They cannot wait until the TDL. Playoffs is not a guarantee this year

They won't be able to afford to wait and I don't think it's just because of the standings. The team needs to believe that management can recognize the problems and get them solved.
Yeah, we saw how bad they looked and how upset they sounded in 2023 when Lars Eller was the only acquisition.

This team needs a shot in the arm.

Shoot Georgiev to the moon. No rebound control whatsoever. And oh man when he starts to move in panic in front of the net you know puck is gonna be back in the net.

Enough is enough I have had it with this....
I thought he battled hard and you can't put any of those goals (45) on him in the amount of games he's played (15). Nothing he could've done

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Of course Avs don't publicly shit on their shit goalies when they are desperate to keep any amount of trade value on them.

A goalie most likely needs more games to adapt to a new team than ~15.

Don't wait till deadline. Get an upgrade now. We don't need Vezina caliber solution, we need consistent <.905 solution. The players and the fans deserve it.

Trade George for Gibson + picks @75% retention. Then trade Annunen + picks for Blackwood @75% retention. Then everyone will be happy. Easy right?
This is obviously an insane, DrurySakic type of fantasy proposal but I’ve actually been really thinking about this and good god what a way to fire this team up.

The retention is likely far too heavy, but imagine we traded Georgiev + whatever is needed for Gibson at 50% and then Annunen + whatever is needed for Blackwood at his full contract.

Just say f*** it Adrian Dater style. The goaltending clearly isn’t working. Even if it does start to work, the players aren’t going to trust it. Mackinnon and company have worked their god damn asses off for too long. Go get two clear upgrades signed this year and next. Maybe they work as a tandem. Maybe one steals the net from the other. How it works is to be seen but what we do know if that management are going in a different direction in goal and rewarding their players

Yeah. Having sub .900 isn’t ideal but if it’s at least consistently around .900. Anything less is causing guys to lose confidence and also driving up the usage of top guys to either play catch up or being on the ice to ensure holding a lead. Waiting is only going to make it worse. The team played well enough to be 8-2 after the first 10 games. Instead it was 5-5 or 4-6...something like that.

And honestly, the Avs should be willing to trade their first if it means getting goaltending that’s consistently getting you .900 to .920 goaltending.

Trade the 1st for Gibson and as much retention as possible. Then trade Georgiev in a separate deal. If you can get Gibson for 3.2 to 4.0 million aav, you at least in a position where you have a goalie signed for a similar duration for what they signed Georgiev for at a better AAV relative to the cap.
