We've allowed the most empty net goals in the league this year

I think this stat is being tracked past this year but even if the current Avs have given up the most empty netters, the supposed benefit of removing them from the calculation only for the Avs slims of you remove them from the other teams as well.

How would that work in a trade scenario? You'd need 4 teams to pull this off, or am I wrong? I do agree with they need to jettison both goalies at some point.
Yeah, my post is 100% sarcasm. I don't think we can get either @75% retention, let alone both. It's either younger and unproven or, older and often injured. Not a great scenario unless the world's align.

The Avs are trying to get Mikko signed for less than Nate. Rantanen/his agent believe they could get 14m on the open market (which would equal 12.25 with 8 year term).

Interesting that the insiders think Kakko is available from the Rangers. It has to be because his next contract is going to be a tricky one. Kakko has been one of the better forwards with the Rangers so far this year. 11 5v5 points, and has actually played center for the last two games. I wonder what Drury might be looking for him? Another vet or a young d-man?

The 8 year vs 7 year on the market should pull this in the Avs’ favor at some point.
Especially considering what teams are better options for contending? There are not that many that are in a better spot for the next few years than Rantanen, and is there a single one that could afford to pay Rantanen 13-14M AAV? Unlikely.

I'm cool with Gibson...I'm not cool with the cost some have floated. I still maintain any team taking Gibson, even retained is doing the Ducks a solid. Nobody wants a 6.4M backup and it's Dostal's team now.

For me the higher prices would be easier to stomach more around January depending on how he's played.

At 50% and solidly above .900 he solves the starter issue for pretty much the rest of the window.

If you can sign Rantanen for 8x$12.25M or less, they'd be foolish not to IMO.

He has his warts but he's an elite player and ~$12M is solid value especially if the cap is expected to start rising like some have speculates(I'm not a believer).

If we're talking about a $95M cap in year 1 of his deal and $100M+ by year 2, $12M is a solid deal for a Top 10 winger in the game.

Well, we know his fat ass will keep scoring even if he can barely move around the ice at least.

The 8 year vs 7 year on the market should pull this in the Avs’ favor at some point.

I just remember Kypreos saying the Avs wanted to keep it under $12m, which could be tricky. I can understand Rantanen’s camp not being willing to accept that.

I agree and that makes sense too. Mikko will get over 12mil, as he should. 14 mil is a marketing talk, I mean sure some shitty team might offer it but it's only for seven years too. 12.25 mil for 8 years is the same.

To me it always made sense he gets paid a bit less than MacK.

I don't believe in the MacKap, but I do believe Makar should be the one to break it.

The problem is we don't know how stupid how agent is trying to be. Is he saying we are going to get 14M per on the open market and we didn't care about an extra year we want 14M per from you or we walk.

Is the agent factoring in the extra year like normal people would, which would put it in 12.25 range. Or is he being an ass and saying for the extra year we'll bring it down to 13.5.

It's tough to say but clearly there is a gap somewhere or it would be done by now. My take is if he's looking for more than 12.25 he needs to be traded tomorrow. That's pretty fair market value. If someone wants to pay him 14M let it be some other team. Just make sure you get something, can't let him walk for free.

The Avalanche will not trade Mikko Rantanen in a year with Stanley Cup aspirations and a rapidly closing window.

Period. Let’s accept that reality and move forward.

He extends or he walks, nothing in between.
