Gibson at 50% retention just makes so much sense for the Avs and the way they love to operate.

It's only a 2 year commitment, and its right in their f***ing wheelhouse of $3-3.5M for a starting goalie.

It's literally a perfect fit. Give them the 2026 1st as the price for retention and give them Annunen as the backup to Dostal, and lets get going with a real goaltending tandem please.

Then go get Sid from Pittsburgh because he's had enough of that bullshit as well :sarcasm:

1. Get Gibson from ANA

2. Get Pettersson from PIT and see if they can throw in Crosby

3. Activate Landeskog for the playoffs and use a 100m payroll

4. Win Stanley Cup

Boom!

Worst Case, Ontario
No it actually doesn’t.

Nabokov at the very least is going to need some time at the AHL level, and that ain’t happening for a while yet.

If they somehow get Gibson they still need a backup.

There was discussion about this on the main board recently. Watching the way that younger goalies like Wolf and Dostal are performing right now, there's a strong case to be made for taking your time with goalie prospects. We saw Dostal excelling in Finland as a teenager, but they made him force his way into the NHL picture with his play in the AHL. Even last year, when he looked quite ready to be handed the backup job based on his NHL work, they still went out and signed Stalock coming off a decent year in Chicago - forcing Dostal to win his full time NHL job away from a more experience goalie. Not a knock against Nabokov at all, but I don't think its prudent to bring him over next year assuming he's ready for an NHL timeshare. Make him earn it and you'll be more sure that you have your guy.

Chicago went way too far with their tank job. Bedard sounds defeated and is losing confidence. You’re telling me a guy like Hagel couldn’t help that kid right now? Even Kane and Dach would be better than what they have. They look a long ways from being competitive again and will miss out on many of the best years of his career and value contract years

Agreed, but also: Bedard is way overrated anyways. He is not the franchise 1C to build around, I just don't see it, for all of his junior level amazingness. A guy like Jack Hughes has always been way more built for that. Time will of course tell, but I'm not at all sold on Bedard becoming the man.

Would I prefer Gibson to George? Yes. However the injury concerns are very real with him. If we get him the Avs would need a very good backup as well because it is very likely Gibson wouldn't be available for the playoffs and then we are back to square one.

However, if they didn't go so hard with the tank job, then maybe they don't have Bedard at all?

Not that development is linear, but Bedard is far ahead of Hughes at the same age. Bedard putting up 61 in 68 at 18 on the roster he did last year was mighty impressive. Now there's tape on him and his roster still sucks ass, not sure how much Bedard can do to drag around that roster right now. A sophomore slump wouldn't be a surprise to me at all.

That's a shame.
