If Drouin is getting $4 mil and Mitts is getting $6 mil, you need to do another move. Plus we can't afford $1 mil AAV depth players if Colton is the only one moving.
No.

Nuke's contract won't count against the cap until he's reinstated and the money is pro-rated.

Assuming he comes back mid November he should miss around 20 games.

20/82 = 24%

24% of 6.125M = 1.47M

Nuke's cap hit next season: 4.65M

My understanding is Nichushkin's cap hit will be prorated, so Colorado should get a ~20 game/~25% relief from his salary.

The Avs can afford a Bjugstad/Evans-type as a 3C, as long as there is some retention.

Alternatively, don't trade Colton, and replace Drouin with another reclamation project (Barabanov/Labanc).

Just a FYI... NHL salaries are calculated by days on the roster and not by games. May 14th would put Nuke at Nov 14th for his return. We don't know the start date, but probably safe to say around Oct 11th-16th. Most NHL seasons have around 185-190 calendar days. So if we take 31/185, we get roughly 17%. If it starts the 17th and say there are 190 days in the season, it could be closer to 15%. We're in the realm of 1-1.3m taken off for this upcoming season if Nuke plays for the Avs again.

Let’s hope not.

We'll know by July 2nd the rough chance of that happening. If the Avs are looking like they are well over the cap, then something is happening. If the Avs are in the realm of being at or under the cap (even ~1m more), then the plan likely includes Nuke.

Just announce some trade or a drouin/mitts contract already sheesh
They won't do anything until earliest tomorrow, there is a pseudo unwritten rule that teams try to not conduct any major business until the Cup is over. In order to not distract from the Cup itself. Some teams don't care, but the Avs typically don't make any moves until after the Cup has been decided.

Avs aren't running a 18 man roster. Need to find another ~1.3-1.5 mil for 2 scratches.

We need to stop thinking about these small tweaks and realistic improvements. Let's honest if the Avs are going to become a powerhouse again and compete for the cup we're going to need to see some complete fleecings.

Like getting a guy who performed like a #1C(at least for that one season) on a cheap deal for Barrie. And a top pairing D at 4m for two seconds.

So what are the most unrealistic bullshit trades you can think of!

As I mentioned, Nichushkin's salary is not accurate because of the suspension. Remove 15-20 games from him and you get the extra money for two scratches.

Keep in mind that 6 months being he earliest Nuke could return is dependent on him being reinstated. There's a decent possibility he misses more time than that, or isn't reinstated if the league doesn't feel he's "rehabilitated" enough.

Yep all these cap friendly rosters with Nuke at $6.125M... You can basically take at least $1.1M off that. Nuke will carry a $5M cap or lower for this coming season.

Honestly... even though I personally want Nuke gone at this point, it makes some level of sense to keep him for this year at the reduced cap hit. Hopefully he can have a healthy clean year, then dump him next summer.
