What Makes a Prospect?

A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:
  • If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.
  • An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players who turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.
  • European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 who have signed an NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.
  • Notwithstanding the previous criteria, any skater who has played six seasons since his selection in the NHL Entry Draft, and any goaltender who has played seven seasons since his selection, will be considered graduated for the purposes of prospect eligibility. Any player signing at or above the age of 25 will not be considered a prospect under these criteria.

NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.

Let's just move the f*** on to next season.

Decisions to make on Henriksson, Trivigno, Robertson, and Lindbom.

I would guess they keep Robertson and let the other three walk.
Hey bud, would you be so kind as to add a link to 2023-2024 final prospects thread in your first post.

My thoughts as well. Henriksson showed a tiny bit of progress, so there's an outside chance he gets a stay of execution. He probably goes back to Sweden, though.

Done, it's at the bottom. I used to link like the previous 4 or 5 years of threads, but I stopped doing that once they removed the 1000-post limit for threads.

With the Rangers lacking skilled centers, I hope both McConnell-Barker and Korczak hit as far as top 9 centers. What is their upside? Can Korczak and McConnell-Barker be 2ed and 3rd line centers in the future? Any chance Edstrom can play 3rd line center? He has underrated offensive skill in my opinion

I bet Barbashev signs with Golden Knights cause of his brother. That is my guess

IIRC, the drafted, unsigned, rights-expired guys are NOT UFAs YET
they are now eligible for re-draft in 2024 draft

admittedly unlikely, for most, but up to a few have happened some years
this Reddit post is not authoritative, but FYI
just moving these from prior thread

Edstrom looks like a prototypical fourth line guy. He has decent hands and good skating but his game is not centered on offense. One plus is he can play everywhere up front.

BMB has the most upside, for sure. He was a bit up-and-down this season even setting aside the bad head injury, although he did show well in the playoffs. I think he's more of a 3C who plays a responsible game up and down the ice, but he has the talent to be more if everything breaks right.

Korczak I've never really been impressed with. He needs to get a lot stronger since he's slight of build and doesn't have plus skating ability. He showed some good smarts and a commitment to playing responsible defensive hockey this season, but I think he's somewhat limited. Seems more like a good career minor pro than anything but you never know, he'll be 22 when the season starts so there's room for him to develop.

I see Luotsarainen in Edstrom. he impressed me this past series. Just a big body he can get to tight spaces. I loved Ed's physicality too. I see no reason why he can't score 25-30 points in the bottom 6, with a strong PK role.

Did you forget all the times you shit on him last year after he got sent back to juniors?

I remember and I thought he was ready at that point, but I think he had a better season than scrubs like Trivigno, Henriksson.

Robertson isn't even a top 10 guy lol.

I'd have Laba 4 based off of those names but you could convince me to put him behind Garand.

Also seeing Fortescue more than 15 or so times this year, i’m pretty confident he’s going to be a solid NHL player in 3-4 years. Might be a slow cooker like a lot of defense first dmen, but he’ll be on the team eventually.

Yeah theres a lot to like there and he was definitely and after thought on that team but he played and mostly excelled with top 4 minutes on a national runner up as a freshman.

Already a great defender of the rush and 1v1. He's got a bit of mother f***er in his game too.

Rangers need to draft defense heavy this year (unless they trade picks for an NHL d-man). Robertson isnt inspiring any confidence, and I have hope for Fortescue and Mancini but the upside is somewhat limited on both.

The 2018 draft the Rangers had a lot of picks and invested a lot on defense: Miller, Lundkvist, Ragnarsson, Keane, Gross, Kjellberg. Obviously Miller was a great pick. Lundkvist is looking a little shaky right now but can probably stick around in the league for several years if he wants to. The rest didn't pan out.

After that, they didn't draft many defensemen at all: Robertson, Jones, and Skinner in 2019; Schneider in 2020; Hank Kempf in 2021; Mancini in 2022; Fortescue and Larsson in 2023. Jones may yet have an NHL career, and while it seems unlikely for Robertson, it's too early to write the book on him. Schneider was a good pick. Kempf, probably an AHL depth guy but he was drafted in the 7th. Mancini is really interesting--looks like a very good pick given where he was drafted. Fortescue is looking good. Larsson will be interesting to watch in college this year.

They also acquired Emberson and signed Scanlin. Shame we couldn't keep Emberson, I liked him a lot. I know it was with San Jose but he was going to be a full-time player for them this year.
