NHL 2024 - 2025 Out of Town III: Islanders remove Lou Lamoriello

You seemed like the only one here yesterday who was arguing about this.

Here's my reality....Mario is the best offensive player I've ever seen.
Orr was but removing him I go with Lemieux as well

The Bruins and the LA Kings were once in the same division were these two ever ?
People forget Winnipeg stayed in the southeast once they moved from Atlanta from 2011-2013 until the league re-aligned itself.

It was...weird. The trend of Ovechkin absolutely making the Thrashers his children followed them to Winnipeg lmao.

I don't know.

To me Orr was hands down the best player. I always thought Mario was the best offense player, but I think now that was more of an Anti-Gretzky take. They were certainly on the same level.

Orr was the best player pretty much every game he played - other players may have scored a hat trick and Orr nothing - but if you were watching it was clear his skating/skill were superior to everyone else

Gretzky I’m not sure I’d have thought he was a better player then Messier many games

Lemieux was Orr-ish in it was obvious he was better than everyone else skills wise watching. Size definitely played a part

The National Hockey League's Southeast Division was formed in 1998 as part of the Eastern Conference due to expansion. The division lasted for 14 seasons (not including the cancelled 2004–05 season) until 2013. The division was intended to group teams primarily in the Southeastern United States. Its original members were the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Washington Capitals. The expansion Atlanta Thrashers joined the division in 1999. The Thrashers' relocation to Winnipeg in 2011 to become the new Winnipeg Jets spurred talks for what became a league realignment in 2013; the Jets still played in the Southeast during the division's final two seasons.

Yeah it’s them and Ottawa for the last two spots. I think Columbus and NYR could have made either but they both played like they didn’t want to make it week after week. Pathetic

Ottawa might give the Leafs (who I think win the division) a bit of a hard time but they are still too short on playoff talent. Same for Montreal. Still too small and not physical enough to win a round vs the Caps.

Don't be too hard on Columbus. They've played all season with a roster almost $20m under the cap and a huge amount of emotional baggage following the tragic events of the offseason. That they even got close to a playoff spot is remarkable and incredibly brave. But here at the end they're simply exhausted and understandably so. Sub-par goaltending isn't helping either.

The Rangers on the other hand, yeah they've been terrible. No excuses for them.

Though there were nights you wouldn't have known Mario played.

Ovi is a freak, in all the good ways. No one should take and give that punishment while looking like a half a pack drinker. I'd not be surprised to learn he smokes in the off season. He's literally a one in a billion human. He's a hard man. I just wish he wasn't political for the worst regime until recently, but at least he's funny. Small wins.
Only euro better is Jagr. A beast himself of a human, but that guy could score and create. Aside from Mario, he's the only other player in the past 30 years who was fully capable of topping 2000 points...prolly hitting 2300

Gretzky scored 50 in 39 .You can't sell him short like that..Just look at the assists he had alone.Ask Kurri how good he was .And believe me I despise the Oilers more then most..

Having more assists (Gretzky) than any other NHL player in history has points is a feat I've always respected.

You could subtract every single goal Gretzky ever scored in the regular season and he would still be the All-Time NHL points leader.

If all 8 of the likely playoff teams were on fire, I suppose I would piss on Ottawa.

I'd include Toronto, Tampa, Florida, Carolina, and Montreal on that list -- but only if I've been drinking straight gasoline for 10 days..

I'm over my initial TDL emotion of "I'm gonna root for FLA for Brad".

You are 100% on the money with your description of Orr.

Been going to games since 1970 as a young boy. Only one player has ever "made" me watch him and that is Orr.

If you had a pulse and were even remotely interested in the game, you simply could not look away when he was on the ice.

Replica of last year’s Capitals - sneaking in with a horrible goal differential because no one else is good enough to grab that spot. They have only 7 more wins than the free-falling Bruins. The East has been so weak the last couple years outside of a handful of teams.

Yup. And, like a lot of people, I think this made the Bruins look better than they actually were.

Different times.

Ther were ten 50 goal scorers the year Gretzky did that, including greats like Dennis Maruk, Blain Stoughton and Rick Vaive.

Yep. Teams also averaged 1 goal/game more in the early 80s than they did over the last 20yrs in the NHL.

To break that record in the same amount of games over the last 20yrs, vs the 80's-90s is impressive as hell...

I guess there’s probably a generational element at play here eh - meaning, if you’re late40’s like me, nobody will ever come close to the magic that Gretzky was, but for someone in their 60’s it’s bobby, etc
