I don’t really believe Bednar that nobody is close to returning. These two are looking pretty good to me.

If that ends up the case, I think we can conclude Bednar is just f***ing with us.

He'll have gone from being way too optimistic on his injury returns for like 8 years, to being way too pessimistic all of sudden with multiple players.

I'm not sure who it was but someone posted a video of Manson the other day doing footwork between three pucks. I know he has a reputation for being the slower, defensive oriented, physical dman... but watching that video, holy crap he actually is fleet of foot. Maybe it's just that the bar has become incredibly high for these guys, but I see Manson do things that a plug in the early 00s couldn't have even dreamed of doing. I think he HAS to be close.

As for JD, I'm not sure. Folks keep assuming it's a muscle thing but I've been worried it was a head thing. Typical Avs media lockdown though and we will never know what exactly it is that's bothering him unless he makes a comment about it after he returns. Wishing him the absolute best though because CMac's f***ery of the budget forced him into two years of one year contracts. Yes, the first was a prove it deal, but he should have been rewarded with more than what he got from us on this new one...we just didn't have the space to do right by him. But if this effects his next deal in any way, it will be a crying shame.

Yeah, Manson's always been pretty quick for a big guy. Big part of why he fit in well on the Avs.

They need bigger bodies on defense, but they need to be able to skate, and handle the puck ok to play Bednar's system. Hard to find defenseman like that.

Manson is a tremendous skater for his size and style of play. Gets up and down the ice and moves laterally quite well. It's a big reason why he gets a lot of pucks to the net from the point.

Bednar never actually talks to the trainers, it’s all non-verbal. Head nods or shakes, thumbs up or down, go or no-go. When he says, “I haven’t spoken to the trainers yet.” I think he literally means that they haven’t spoken at all since the day he was hired as head coach. That’s how I imagine it anyway

DNVR Podcast said Landeskog is regularly skating and Avs are keeping it out of the media intentionally to not deal with people’s eye evaluations that he has setbacks, regressed, etc.

They were very adamant that he is indeed skating everyday.

Now how do they activate him if it's truly possible he returns in season.

Is Wood and whatever that dudes name enough?

Even I was starting to believe they were planning on a return in the playoffs if they are actually looking at trading for defense.

We get Landy back, along with Drouin, Manson, Wood and there will probably be at least one depth move forward or D at the trade deadline, then we’ll be cookin. Although I’m not sure how we gonna stay cap compliant

Nope.

Needs to be a Colton type player around $4m.

With Manson back, I don’t see the big need for a D addition.

3C is the bigger need.

I'd personally prefer another LD Dman over a 3C. Call me crazy, but I just don't trust CDH in any situation right now. I wish Bednar would leave Ivan² there, and put Kelly back on the 4th line.
The Avs already have two veteran guys at that position on the roster. Neither one is great, but that’s why they’re 3rd pairing guys. How much better is another 3rd pairing guy going to be?

3C is another matter though. I like the way Kelly plays hockey, but he is a black hole offensively. That’s the position that could use the uplift.

CDH will cost us more goals playing LD as our #6 defenseman, than Kelly or Ivan² at 3C. More offense is always welcomed, but we need to prevent goals too.

If we get everyone back, including Landy, can we even afford to trade for a 3C or a LD? Unless we send someone from a roster, not sure how that would be possible. As it is now, we have to make room to fit Landy to the cap if or when he comes back in the regular season

It would give them three lines that can score if it's the right center. We certainly have enough wingers.

The #6D should probably be addressed though.

If they actually have to trade Colton in season to facilitate Landeskogs return they're going to have to get creative.

They're certainly not trading from the D core.

If they could get a capable depth defender who might actually spell one of 7 or 8 from too many minutes on the penalty kill, I'm all for it, but part of the issue is that Bednar's still-horrid system requires fast-skating defensemen, a more aggressive scheme would allow for the big lumbering types to assert their positioning and maybe box would-be scorers out.
