Speculation: 2024-2025 General Lightning Discussion II: New year, same Cooper shell

  • Work is still on-going to rebuild the site styling and features. Please report any issues you may experience so we can look into it.
Yanni Gourde will probably get moved at the deadline.

Mathieu Olivier seems interesting. Fights aren't a huge thing in the playoffs, but we've shed a lot of that over the past few years.

Nils Hoglander's profile reads like a guy the Lightning would get. A fearless, undersized forward.

With the way Kuzmenko’s season has gone, shouldn’t take much to take him off CGY’s hands. There might not be a better spot to try for him to try and salvage what is a contract year.

I was thinking about Andersson a bit this morning and it could actually be a super savvy move if the cap has the bigger than expected jump that EF is reporting. You could essentially build 3 very solid 2-way pairs of:
Moser - Andersson
McDonagh - Cernak
Hedman - Raddysh

Which would allow us to give Hedman more sheltered starts as he ages and begins to decline. This would be allotting a lot of capspace for Defense though, so you'd have to be pretty confident in Geekie at 2RW as we would have very minimal budget to upgrade their and would need to spend pretty much the entire remaining cap on our third line.
Yep we can use a player like Andersson sooner or later mcdonagh and Hedman will get worse and age

It'll have to be a top priority once his season is over. I am going to be a little surprised if he doesn't have to play in the AHL for a spell
Are 2nd and 3rd lines aren’t that good Howard could play on our 3rd line now

Halfway point officially. Tampa is 8 pts better than last year at this point (23-15-3 vs 19-17-5), top offense in the league, top 5 power play, improved pk to now top 10, and improved defense/goaltending to now 9th in ga/g at 2.75 and 5th in team goaltending with a .910 sv%. All of this against the league's 2nd toughest schedule in the 1st half. Definitely heading in the right direction, and with a couple of good tdl moves, they definitely could have another deep run this season.

A Russian sport site says Tampa is one of the teams interested in Maxim Shabanov. He is undrafted, currently plays in KHL. Stats: 5th in points, 41 point (17 goals + 24 assists) in 45 games.

Wants to try NHL next season. He is small - 173 cm height (5'8'') and 71 kg (151 lbs), 24 years old.

Total KHL regular season stats: 124 points (61 goals + 63 assists) in 187 games. KHL playoffs - 11 points (3 goals + 8 assists) in 15 games.

He can play all positions and situations - pp, pk, center, left and right wings.

I don't know if a 173 mm player has much of a NHL future.
Odds are against him but Atkinson is that size and he had a pretty good career before injuries ruined him. Not to mention St Louis and Johnson. It obviously takes a special player and the career will probably be shorter due to wear and tear but it is possible.

I was just being a smartass since 173 mm is 17.3 cm which is 6.8 inches.

But yes, smaller players definitely can have a good career. His stats are intriguing and because it only costs a contract spot, what the hell. Sign him if he's willing to come here.

Hell yeah, in order to extend our window we gotta hit some swings like that (as well as upgrading our roster with trades).

I think we've done a good job at F extending the window, but we are gonna need to figure out how to replace one of the most irreplaceable players in the league (Hedman). Or we need to find a time machine for him.

Olivier would be a perfect fit but seems likely to extend with CBJ. Guy is putting up some numbers and hasn't been a liability, earned a ton of trust from Evason who does well with players like that. In his prime years too and arguably the toughest SOB in the league, sign me up.

Fight night in Boston tomorrow is canceled, Bruins will keep Kastelic out...cowards.
Boston has some big boys, I know you like Lilleberg (as do I) but Kastelic ain't afraid of anybody and is simply a better fighter despite what happened the other day. Take the W and move on. Can't let a few fights fool you, I love the kids willingness but usually there comes a day when things don't go so well. Zadorov is the one I worry about because he is a nasty hitter on top of being able to scrap, so I just hope he's not the one who comes calling.

As long as nobody gets KO'd or mismatched, I'll be happy. Trust me, I want to be wrong but you're not giving enough respect to the damage Boston can do IF it even goes down that road.

Olivier seems more likely to ring the bell this summer and take the best offer he'll get in his career. There isn't an immediate path in Columbus for winning or absolutely cashing in.

There have been reports of Olivier staying with CBJ , as their GM has met with all pending UFAs (except Olivier) regarding TDL and potential destinations.
Would be amazing to have him here.

Apparently Bjorkstrand may be available, who has one more year at 5.4m. The exact type of player that I hope we target this off-season/at the deadline.

Yeah, I think the only avenue would be the TDL for him in TB but I'm down either way. When guys like that hit the UFA market, especially with the year he's having, prices will be crazy.

You forgot Johnny hockey RIP!

We should have signed Foegle for what he got in la 3 x 3.5 . He would be a great addition compared the waste of cap space of Atkinson, Gonglaves, or Sheary when they are on the roster. We have the space and he is what we need in the bottom 6. We need to find a guy or two like him in a trade if we want to make a run. If not this team is getting iced first or second round.
