Speculation: 2024-2025 General Discussion III: No pressure JBB!

Tuch is a good top 6 winger and a nice fit for the team but if the cost is Geekie, a 1st and more? That's too steep for my liking. I'd be happy in the sense that it gives us a better chance to go deep, but that's an overpayment.

Now I just want to see Tuch traded for the Sabres fans reactions alone, although maybe I should be careful what I wish for if the price is insane.

It's going to take an overpayment to get him, there's no doubt about it. Prospects less than Howard/Geekie aren't going to cut it as the main piece. As long as JBB is confident that Tuch will sign an extension on July 1st, Tampa moving one of Geekie/Howard plus next year's 1st as the main pieces of the trade isn't really beyond realistic. I still highly doubt he ends up in Tampa in the next 5 days, but I can't see any scenario where Adams trades him for just a 1st, mid grade prospect and lesser roster piece.

Anders Lee would be an interesting fit if somehow the $ was made to work, maybe get another team in the mix for retention. I know he voiced his loyalty to the Isles after replacing Tavares as captain but I think he has a limited NTC and fills some holes. Bigger guy who can score goals in front of the net and excel down low.

Cooper coached him back in the day iirc, and raved about his leadership/personal qualities in an interview I saw awhile back.

We could also just get a third team involved that wants futures...
Good point. And probably happening right now. ...Nashville? Pittsburgh?

Tuch isn't a UFA. That's most of the point in this trade.

Yes, I know, but JBB could still extend him on July 1st, which would be the plan imo if Tampa is going to "empty the cupboards" to try and acquire Tuch.

Probably, but it's also more about the next two playoffs. It's hard to gauge the window beyond that.

The window should still be open after, although Tampa will likely need to sign/trade for at least one more top 4 dman to help with the aging out of McD and Hedman.

We "only" need to replace Hedman and McD to stay competitive, simple task really.
That's not as simple as it is, nor what I said or.meant, but okay. After the next two years, Hedman will still likely be a solid top 4 dman, while McD is likely slowing down to a 3rd.pairing role (if he remains on the team). Tampa shouldn't have that much of an issue acquiring one additional top 4 dman through trade, or more likely with a rising cap, free.agency.. So yes, the team should still be rather competitive after the next two seasons, even having to likely add one additional high-quality dman.

I'd love to see us get boone Jenner for 3rd line. Tuch is a pipe dream but would be an amazing get. We need tk add some physical bottom 6 forwards with some offensive skills like when we won gourde, coleman, And goodrow types. Wouldn't mind a physics defenseman similar to the role schenn had.

Yeah, unless JBB is working with a 3rd team to send a bunch of futures to in order to then send that target to Buffalo for Tuch, I don't see Tuch coming to Tampa.
I could see JBB go to that extent in order to get the player he wants.

It's possible, but JBB will need to find a team that isn't better to just deal with Buffalo directly, find an established top 6 center or top 4 RD to then overpay for with the same or similar assets that would've been used in a direct Tuch trade, and have said player not have any kind of ntc or somehow convince them to waive for Buffalo (extremely doubtful). I'm not really sold on a Gourde reunion either, as I think there are better ufa options out there if JBB is looking to go that route.

I don't think there are any teams really choosing to bottom out right now (maybe Seattle?). Teams have to be open to both buying and selling at the same time. Just look for good deals.

Buffalo could choose to hang on to Tuch, but they can get more for him in a trade, than potentially lose him for nothing as a free agent.

The problem is, what player is as good or better than Tuch that doesn't have a NTC and has some term on their deal/RFA that is also available for trade for futures? If I really stretch it then maybe Dobson or Kyrou? ROR would actually be a good fit but he has an imaginary NTC and did not have a great time in BUF.
