The benefit of Minten is that he can likely play in the lineup for us this season. The downside of this trade is we'd have an extremely young center in our middle 6 barring someone isn't brought in.

I actually like the prospects of a Schenn trade being centered around Minten more than Cowan and that's mainly due to me believing Minten will stick at center and not believing Cowan will. I just don't see any reason at all to bring in Cowan. I don't necessarily think he's a better prospect than Stenberg I think he's pretty similar in a lot of ways like you had said. We already have Buchnevich, Holloway and Neighbors under contract. Bolduc's in there, Stenberg likely could be a LW. I'm fairly confident that is a good enough LW grouping to be a competitive team. We're just much weaker down the middle now and in the future barring change. I wouldn't mind Danford being a part of the deal either. But I think that's asking for quite a bit.
Cowan has improved his skating to an above average tool. Hes a better prospect than Minten in my opinion. Minten is a 3rd line center at best may progress more, but I wouldn’t bank on it.

Is Minten really better than Alexandrov?

Dvorsky is the start of addressing the Center position, and then you have first rounders the next two years to further address that issue(and this years is probably going to be another top 10 pick). Minten would not be a long term piece. He's a placeholder until a better player comes along.
By far. Minton projects as 3rd line center, which we don’t really have in our pool. Alexandrov is a semi-skilled winger without an nhl fit; he projects to be playing in khl as soon as he tires of riding buses in ahl.

CP and Neighbours for pending RFA Bouchard. Do you make that deal?

I don’t know. But what I do know is Alexandrov isn’t playing center currently.

Truthfully I don’t care if he’s a long term piece. None of us really know if he is or isn’t. Wilder things have happened than a 2nd rounder coming in and exceeding expectations.

I know Cowan is a better prospect, and I’m sure both front offices do as well. But I’d be ok centering a package around Minten if we could get a 1st or a Danford or something with him. I’m not banking on hitting a home run from Schenn. But it gives us cap flexibility, allows us to change our core a bit, allows us hypothetically not to have to rush Dvorsky or start him on the wing if need be, and allows us potentially to not have to add a bigger piece at center.

I don’t think we need cap flexibility, I also don’t think we have to trade Schenn. But I’d prefer getting a head start on moving some of these older guys out to get young blood in and force 18/25 to really be leaders and get that experience before we’re trying to push through a competitive window.

Is Bouchard getting 8x8 or is he getting 12x8?

I hope we don’t trade Schenner. He’s the captain, and he’s a true Blue in every sense of the word. I feel like we’re always looking for guys like him, and they’re hard to find.

But at the same time… all good things must end, he doesn’t fit our window anymore, and I’d get it if we wanted to get while the getting was good. I think we’ll regret it for awhile, but ultimately it could be a good thing for us.

With that said… I hope all of this smoke around a TOR trade scenario is just meant to drive up the bidding price. A 2026 1st and Cowan/Minten is fine, but decisively not more than that. The 1st is future trade fodder, and Cowan/Minten probably don’t crack our top-5 prospects right now. To me, it stinks of Zach Dean, where the draft pedigree outweighs the actual prospect value; I.e. we’d be buying high on prospects who probably won’t move the needle that much. It’s fine. Is fine worth it, tho?

I’m much more excited by a prospective trade with CAR or LAK, but Schenn holds the cards in where (or if) he goes.
Intellectually, I think it’s probably the best move to trade Schenn for more currency that matches the next window. But we are rapidly running out of players from the Cup team.

Binnington, Parayko, kind of Thomas, Sundqvist 2.0, please tell me I’m forgetting someone. Was Kyrou a black ace?

I saw a photo with the Cup the other day and didn’t recognize Bozak. Then realized I’d forgotten he was on that team.

My heart wants to hold onto some of those guys longer. If/when Binnington gets traded, it will be bittersweet.

Yes, but it's basically a deal that I acknowledge makes us worse until we acquire a Parayko replacement, but I'm fine waiting till the summer to start that as Bouchard will be more impactful for Steen than Parayko.

I'm unsure how good Bouchard is without McDavid in front of him though.

Schenn's playing his 1000th NHL game tonight, so you have to wonder if they have been waiting until after tonight's game......
I think in reality they are waiting to see where they sit in the standings after the next few games, I don't think Army & Co believe that this team is out of it by any means. A couple more losses could change that though.

Friedman is saying everyone except Thomas is available.
As they should be, heck even Thomas is available in the right deal

Cowan can play center and both wings. He will play in the top 9. I disagree where you put him. I think he slots a bit higher. He ranked 35th on DF top 75 and 41st on wheelers last year. 45th this year behind Snuggy and Dvo. He is their best and not close. 200 ft player on London Knights.

I’ll default to you on it, I’m not terribly familiar with him. I’m just of the understanding he’ll probably be a wing at the NHL similar to Stenberg. I mainly like the idea of having Minten be able to jump in immediately and hope he grows into more or being alright if he can be a 3C.

I know he ranked significantly higher on lists. I’m just mainly looking at his profile and having limited views.

Is he saying that based on actual info given to him be DA, or is he just making that up out of thin air?
What i gather is, the insiders expect us to be active and could see 1-3 players being moved. He doesn't see Thomas or Parayko being moved. I'd assume Holloway and Broberg are also safe. I also expect prices to be relatively high, so it's not quite a fir sale situation, but he wants to make something happen.
