As much sense as Parayko makes to the Leafs for the Leafs. He makes sense here to the Blues and probably to about 20 other teams in the NHL. You don't move him unless as others have said there's a young high end defenseman coming back. Don't like it? Fine, look elsewhere.

There's just no shot you can convince me that we come out break even trading Parayko for Knies, Kampf, Cowan, and a 1st. That doesn't make sense for either teams long-term outlook.

It would be really fun to have Knies and Snuggerud together sure given their college connection. But where do we fit all of these guys in?

Bolduc is already at the NHL level, Holloway is currently a top 6 contributor at 23, Buchnevich is signed long term, Neighbors just signed an extension this season, Stenberg is probably a year or two away. That's 5 primary left wings. That's also not factoring in Cowan or whoever. Sure one of those players may not pan out the way you like but 4 are already on the NHL roster, 2 have been tried at center and there weren't great results. There's just no need to add more wingers or late 1sts in an event where we ship out Parayko.

If they or whomever wants a Faulk or a Schenn or a Leddy or a Fowler, sure lets talk. But moving out the area we know we don't have internal solutions to to add to an already rather large surplus doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I don't think these types of roster upgrades, from a Blues perspective, have a likelihood of happening at the TDL. These are more summer/pre-draft transactions.

Leveraging Parayko for someone younger like Knies+ (and short-term cap dumps) would also require moving a forward for a defenseman. Then you start talking about flipping Kyrou or Neighbours or a prospect for a D-man and the moves work in tandem. But yes, Toronto isn't a good partner for a d-man replacement in a Parayko deal.

It's an interesting thought experiment, trying to add and subtract while preserving value. But I'd swoon for Knies.

I hope Army is able to make some sort of hockey trade that benefits the Steen era, at the expense of this season, and they use the summer to fix whatever roster issues come from it.

Not to the same scale, but like the Lakers acquiring Luka, and then figuring out the ideal roster in the summer. Maybe it's a Byfield, a Buffalo D, one of the other young D, or someone else. I want to build up that next core with another major piece.

You're right. Puckpedia for some reason has 26-27 highlighted in bright red. I thought that meant it was this year and didn't look at the dates. My bad. It's my fault for not looking more carefully, but I still miss cap friendly It was much more readable than any of the current options..

It makes it a better deal for us, but I still don't pull the trigger for all the reasons you laid out.
They have it highlighted as a 'potential lockout' year. It is probably my least favorite aspect of their format, because it absolutely looks like a 'current year' highlight since they include all previous years of the contract on the player's page.

I think if Toronto said they’d give me max domi, their 2026 1st and any one of their prospects for Schenn I’d tell them that Philly has Scott Laughton available and that was probably the aisle they should be shopping in. Not sure I’d do it. If I had to I’d probably want Danford because I feel we have a lot to process as it goes for 19-21 year old forwards.

Schenn’s interested teams - 4?

Canucks JT Miller-lite replacement seems mega obvious to me and my guess at the source of the “let’s get both Schenns” rumor. Also the Canucks are the type of crazy to trade guys with term midseason.

Vegas because Friedman indicated they tried for him previously.

Toronto because their media groups need clicks and every single time a potential center is available they discuss which prospect will be traded every deadline. Pretty much can’t be the source of the let’s get both Schenns rumor because the salary cap. Luke was already a victim to torontos cap. They aren’t fitting 10 million worth of Schenns.

And I can’t decide the 4th? Any team that would have ties to the Schenns or a specific need for Brayden’s skillset?

That would be the mammoth sized return they mentioned earlier.

I’d be hesitant to trade Schenner at this point now that it looks like the team
has finally woken up. Listening to the Long Shift Ryan Suter interview he talks about how great a guy and captain Schenn is and how he’s like the glue that holds the good locker room culture together or something along those lines.

But I guess ultimately I’m going to trust Army’s judgement on this one.
