That guy lives in La La Land. Perfect response by Hughes, how else do you answer that? "Oh, I didn't mean any disrespect there, I was just trying to finish the play" f*** that. He shouldn't have to entertain that madness.
Honestly the thing that makes me laugh the most is his, "when's the last time you saw somebody one hand score" as if that doesn't happen nowadays. Does he even watch hockey?

Vally is a great goaltender analyst. I enjoy listening to him break down goaltending.

That is all.

This. One of the best in that regard IMO.

Anyways, I dunno, I'd take the occasional ridiculous hot take during intermission* versus a full game of wholly inaccurate calls by the Altitude super duo doing their best to avoid coming close to touching on anything remotely negative about the Avs. One takes away from enjoying the game, and one doesn't.

*By the way, we get plenty of those also! :thumbu:

I dunno, both Johnnys Malkin and Liles were pretty unsparing of the rod during the last postgame couch session.

If I was a goalie and I didn't want to be embarrassed I would simply not allow my opponents to score. As happened in the chance referenced there (but not any other time in that game by the looks of it)

Fair. We do occasionally get a slight dose of truth in the post-game seshes...

...once all the bosses are in their KSE pajamas and snugly under the covers for the night.

They still went out of their way to heap praise upon Georgiev, which is still maddening even on nights he was okay. I feel like management actually went to Altitude and specifically told them not to be critical of the goalies' performances. I still cringe at that one game last year when Georgie let in the softest of soft goals against the Canes (shot from distance unscreened, bounced right off his glove and in the net) and Ryker spent the next hour trying to twist the narrative until he convinced himself--but not us--that it was a perfectly good goal to let in.

I feel like I'm in an alternate reality when Rycroft is giving it "Georgie in the form we want to see!" while 4 GAA and 0.850 are on the screen in front of us because he's apparently won some games recently.

It's Valiquette calling out how sad it is that the Rangers didn't give a f***, not so much about Hughes doing something egregious. You sometimes forget how petty the NHL players are (or rather, were), like all those battles about who leaves the warmups first etc? A lot of it has gone away because the young people don't care, they love to show off. Some people said there would never be a lacrosse goal in the NHL because the guy who would do it would be killed immediately. Well, that goal did happen, and nothing came of it.

Valiquette is a great analysist. He might've missed one here, but it is what it is.

What a f***ing joke the officiating is in the NHL. Whitecloud headshots Knies and vgk gets a 2 minute PP.

Nothing's too good for Gary's special golden turds...
The Knights are the NHL's KC Chiefs. They can do no wrong and every rule can be bent for them. Panthers to a lighter degree are as well.

League drama is always fun to see, not when it's the Avs of course

but right now seeing the Rangers fans flipping out is fun. Of course it's always at it's most fun when it's the Leafs and Oilers

Not all goals against are created equal. I would argue that he isn't to blame for any of the three goals vs. Edmonton.

First goal: a seam pass to a wide open forward below the hashes. He made a valiant effort to get over and cover as much net as he could, and almost got the save, but Kapanen isn't missing from there.

Second goal: the shot from the point was tipped three feet to the right about 18" from his glove. Human nerve impulses do not travel fast enough to react to that in real time. It's on the defender in front of the net to tie up the stick and make sure the puck stays on course for an easy glove save.

Third goal: A seeing eye point shot through at least four players. Saves on those kinds of shots are purely about luck. George never got the chance to even see the shot come off the stick, and probably didn't even see it until it went past his ear.

Those are basically textbook examples of the kinds of plays where the goalie isn't to blame. The defense can't allow the seam pass to get all the way across, or lose a man in such a dangerous scoring position. They have to tie up sticks to make sure nobody gets a clean tip. And they have to make sure they aren't screening their own goalie, which is something you learn when you're 12.

I don't think you can hold goalies responsible for not making impossible saves. IDC so much about goals allowed and save %, the context is what matters.

No one is really getting on him for the Edmonton game (after all he did have a .903 Save%), but as TMV said on social media, it just kinda sucks that on most nights, even when he's not terrible, Georgiev is the second-best goalie on the ice.
