The world championship 2023 is approaching with the opening game in about two months. Team Norway look a bit better on paper than previous years in my opinion. The team has been pretty weak in the period from 2018-2022. We have a few more players out in the top european leagues now and a couple of interesting younger players coming up like Granath and Vikingstad who play important roles in their respective teams.

Here is my prediction for a roster.

Henrik Holm plays well in Stavanger Oilers and Lars Volden has had a good season in Sweden. Norway has a new coach this year a swede Tobias Johansson. I'm not quite sure who'll he pich Holm or Volden. Both are good alternatives as a third choiche on the GK spot.

Ole Einar Andersen is a really good offensive back that plays for Stjernen in FKL. He is ready to play in a better league and the best offensive back in FKL. Some team in DEL, HA, Liiga or NL should give him a chanche.

Krogdahl i'm not to convinced with what he have delivered the later years for the NT and his stats are poor in Hockeyallsvenskan. I think we can find better options.

Ole Holm has been moved down to ECHL from AHL. He hasn't developed as hoped. Still young and can still become a good player, but I think we have better options on the back spots on the NT.

Salsten could definetely contribute to the team. A good alternative in the 3rd or 4th line.

Jakobsson can be a good alternative in the top 6 if we get injuries or someone can't play. Should be in the roster and I excpect him to get some icetime.

Espeland has gotten old and we have better options than him He is good in PP and good offensive back, but not that good at defence.

Røymark experienced and hard working. Could take a role in e.g a penalty kill team or in the 4th line. Likely to be in the roster.

Where is Patrik Thoresen? Still good enough?

Will Zuccarello accept a invite if Wild gets kicked out of Stanley Cup?

PT has retired from the NT. He will focus on club hockey only. But he is still good enough to play in our top 6.

About zuccarello i don't think he'll come. He has become a father lately so he probobaly wants to spend time with his newborn girl.

Emilio Pettersen is very keen to join the team. But he plays for a very good AHL team that likely will have a deep run in Calder cup. So uncertain about him taking part.

Some other players:

Martin Gran and Mikkel Oby Olsen is doing good in Allsvenskan.

Tobias Lindström, the swede. Still a good player.

Niklas Roest is gritty and always produce lots of points in the Norweigan league, also have experiance from Allsvenskan.

Ludvig Hoff, had a good season and was good in last WC.

Markus Soberg, former super talent with gritty style. I guess the same can be said about Jacob Lundell Noer.

Viktor Granholm, having a great season in EBEL.

Thomas Valkvae Olsen, former SHLer and was good in DEL last season.

Chrstioffer Karlsen and Stian Kaltrud Nysteuen, 2 late bloomers who had great seasons.

Mats Froshaug, has lots of experiance.

Norway have some depth indeed.

I genuinely think that both Michael Brandsegg Nygard and Stian Solberg (if he’s healthy enough) get looks on this roster.

Norways roster against Sweden in Nordic cup ready.
Some guys busy with play off final in Norway, and Granath and Kåsastul busy with PO in Liiga + Mathias Pettersen in AHL Calder cup. Mats Rosseli Olsen needs some rest after semi finals with Frölunda in SHL.

So far in Nordic cup. OT loss 1-2 against Finland and 0-3 loss the second game. It will be a stronger roster against Sweden.

GKs

Jonas Arntzen - Örebro
Henrik Haukeland - Düsseldorf
Tobias Normann - Sparta

Backs

Ole Einar Engeland Andersen - Stjernen
Isak Hansen - Leksand
Ole Julian Holm - Colombus Blue Jackets
Johannes Johannesen - Rögle
Max Krogdahl - Västervik
Erlend Lesund - Rögle IK
Emil Lilleberg - Oscarshamn
Mattias Nørstebø . Björklöven

Forwards.

Gustav Willman Borvik - BIK Karlskoga
Tobias Fladeby - Graz 99
Viktor Granholm - Graz 99
Michael Haga - Black Wings
Kristian Jakobsson - Sparta
Jørgen Karterud - Vålerenga
Ken Andre Olimb - Schwenningen Wild Wings
Thomas Olsen - Vålerenga
Håvard Østrem Salsten - Sparta
Noah Steen - Mora IK
Mathias Trettenes - HPK
Petter Vesterheim - Mora IK
Eskil Wold - HPK

Noah Steen have been really good against Sweden in these 2 games. He should make it to WC.
The new swedish coach Tobias Johannsson obviouselly is not afraid to give young guns chanches. The previous coach was more conservative sticking to the same older players.

We have become a more puck holding team, before it was a simpler style with dump and chase minimizing the risk for puck loss.

So yes the young guys has a chanche to be in the final roster. Older guys like Mathis Olimb, Røymark and Bonsaksen face competition now. The 04/05 generation who'll play u20 next year is also unusually strong by norwegian standard. So many of those will take a spot in the coming years.

So happy that the eras of Johansen & Thoresen are over, and finally someone who is serious about giving the younger players the opportunity. Johansen was especially scrutinating with him squeezing the very last drops out of the aging Ds, running Holös 30 + minutes and never gave any youngster the chances to build some confidence. Thoresen's teams were just odd compositions. Would rather get relegeated with Johansson's young squad than stay up with the former. As sorealy missed generationial transition.

As for goal-keeping, I still don't know why Holm has not gotten more chances. In my opinion the most consistent goal keeper in Norway for a decade, WC included the short stints he has. Think he is being punished for not moving to Sweden, and that sends a bad signal. Would also like to see Gran get a shot. They shouldn't be so afraid of giving the chance of GKs playing in Norway. Last time we had a qualified 1GK over time it was Haugen, and before that Grotnes, both playing mostly in the Norwegian league.

Emilio Pettersen didn't play last game in Calder Cup btw. Was -2 and pointless in first game, and not too surprised if he was a healthy scratch given the management stated philosophy. Hope he gets the opportunity to join team Norway and get the hell out of the that system. Try NL, DEL og Liiga maybe. Apparently no path for him to NHL for him in the Calgary system as long as Sutter is in charge. He had an overall really good season, did everything asked for by becoming a better rounded player, leadning the team in +/- most of the season with decent production.

On Solberg, he has been injured most of the season, only played juinors this year and might be a year too early for him. Wouldn't mind seeing Isak Hansen in the final roster.

Rosseli Olsen declines due to injury (concussion). Lesund is also out with injury, and Bonsaksen has quit playing on the NT.

thats second year in row that Lesund is out injured. Its a huge blow

No news on Zuccarello btw? Its time he shows up. Not played in WC since 2016..

Not heard anything. But he became a father summer last year, so I guess he wants to be at home with family.

Zuccarello har fått VM-spørsmål: - Mest for å bekrefte at han er uaktuell

Mathis Olimb, Rosseli Olsen and Lesund are all injured.
Gustav Borvik gets a second chanche after being eliminated in the try out games.

The managment don't excpect Zuccarello to come. But at least he needs some time to think about it since he haven't answered the mail, or sms from the norwegian management yet.

So it'll be a very young norwegian team this year.

Seems like no Emilio Pettersen as well, so this has to be the weakest Norwegian squad in years. But, Im going to Riga anyways 😂🤙

Injured / not participating:

Zuccarello
Mathis Olimb
Rosseli Olsen
Emilio Pettersen
Erlend Lesund
