No of course not. But just because you see a potential Ovechkin, doesn't mean the team sees it the same way.
trolling aside on my end, you need to also understand why people really want him considering the potential upside here and considering the past 30 years of broken draft promises, it's really draining and hard to stay rational and think that anyone not as hyped up as Michkov won't actually turn into yet another pumpkin for us...

like why wouldn't they, it's all we know

If the top 4 goes as commonly predicted; Bedard, Fantilli, Smith/Carlsson and the Habs don't want to draft Michkov ( ) it might be better that they trade down for Philly's 7th and 22nd (and maybe another small piece).

That said, without a pick in the 2nd round (for now) I certainly hope they swing for the fences with the 5th oa and pick Michkov.

Most of the posters here weren’t born in 2003 so they wouldn’t know.
I remember being so excited by the potential of Kostitsyn. Every mock were giving the Habs Steve Bernier or even Marc-Antoine Pouliot because they were french canadiens. I was kind of glad they went BPA...

And that is part why I don't get as much excited now as when I was younger. Every prospect are always the next superstar or generational but more often than not there are gross exageration.

“…but you can’t see it like that! Instead of getting Ovechkin 2.0 who would only fill a single spot, we got the equivalent of 2x 3rd liners and a bottom pairing defenseman with great character!!!”

We have a lot of passionate fans here and many of us are draft/prospect junkies. But let's be real here. No offense to anyone, but none of us knows jack shit. I've been on this board for a long ass time. As a collective we are wrong WAY more than we are right. Almost embarrassingly so.

I distinctly remember there was a time when there were a bunch of us here convinced, sincerely convinced, that we had a cup winning core with guys like Kostitsyn, Grabovski, Higgins, Komisarek, Perezhogin, etc... And when I say a bunch, I mean the majority. Montreal was consistently voted by hf magazine as having a top 5 prospect pool in the entire NHL.

So in the end, yeah I get being excited. But nobody knows if this guy is going to pan out. I think a lot of the excitement here comes from hype and crowd mentality more than anything.

^ if Michkov turns out to be as good as we all expect him to be, this will never be forgotten as the dumbest trade in Habs history.
If Michkov turns out as good as many believe he will, why the hell wouldn't Anaheim, Columbus or San Jose not draft him? Because of their famous needs for a center? What happened to BPA? Why would they draft even a very good 1C when they can get a franchise/generational player? Does not compute. If Michkov is THAT GOOD, he won't be available at 5.
