I wouldn't mind this scenario one bit.

Basically, to move back two spots in the Top-10, they end up moving up 9 spots in the later part of the 1st. (from having the 31st OA to having 22nd OA)

Before the trade yesterday, they were picking 5th + 31st in the first round. In this hypothetical trade with Philly, they have 7th + 22nd.

Here's another scenario after trading down to 7th with Philly. Make two more moves:

Caps call and say they want the 7th OA (because just maybe Michkov is still on the board), so you move back to 8th and pick up their 40th OA pick. Then St. Louis calls and asks to move up to 8th and offer up one of their other 1sts (they have 25th & 29th). They're the only team with three 1st round picks.

So in the end:

Trade #1
To PHI: 5th OA
to MTL: 7th OA+ 22nd OA

Trade #2
to WSH: 7th OA
to MTL: 8th OA + 40th OA

Trade #3
to STL: 8th OA
to MTL: 10th OA + 25th OA

So MTL ends up picking 10th + 22nd + 25th + 40th. So in my little dreamland scenario, Habs end up picking 3 times in the 1st round while still picking Top-10 and their 2nd round pick only moves back 3 spots. (37th to 40th)

I'll go have my coffee now.
Make it strong!

Michkov is the perfect pick if he's there. You add finally an ELITE talent. And you tell your crowd that while will be excited by the pick that they still need to be patient as you count on Michkov to be a contender.

You get elite talent. And you buy even more time.

Final order for me:
Michkov
Who's left between Carlsson and Smith
Leonard
Benson
Reinbacher
Dvorsky.
My list exactly

So is giving up 7 and 22 for 5 loll
Not when a franchise/generational talent (Michkov) is available at 5.

Go read the main boards. SJS and ANA fans wanted Slafkovsky + 5th ++ or Suzuki + 5th to jump from Michkov/Carlsson to Fantilli/Smith. The funny thing is, I think Michkov/Carlsson will turn out better than Fantilli/Smith. So to pay Slafkovsky or Suzuki with a BIG plus to downgrade...?!

Now, imagine trading down from the Big 5 to get a Leonard/Reinbacher/Dvorsky (who absolutely are a tier below at this very moment)? I'd want 7+22+Konecny+Tippett MINIMUM.

Yes, because I tried my best to create it, at the face of a few idiots who are irrationally in love with American players every single draft. Fight fire with fire.
Your Schtik is getting old like blue cheese old. I would have liked to see how you would have reacted if your hero Bergevin was still in charge and he passed on Michkov. What would the narrative have been then? :eek2:

Here are 10 reasons why the Montreal Canadiens might consider picking Matvei Michkov in the NHL draft, along with the potential impact his skills could have on the team:

1. Elite goal-scoring ability: Michkov is known for his exceptional goal-scoring skills. His ability to find the back of the net consistently could provide a significant boost to the Canadiens' offensive production.

2. Offensive depth: Adding Michkov to the roster would strengthen the Canadiens' offensive depth, giving them another scoring threat alongside their current core players. This would make it harder for opposing teams to shut down their offense.

3. Power-play specialist: Michkov's scoring prowess could make him a valuable asset on the power play. His ability to create and finish scoring chances could help the Canadiens improve their power-play efficiency and generate more goals with the man advantage.

4. Versatility in the lineup: Michkov's ability to play both left and right wing positions provides flexibility in the team's lineup. This gives the coaching staff options to mix and match lines to maximize offensive chemistry.

5. Speed and agility: Michkov's quickness on the ice allows him to create separation from defenders and generate scoring opportunities. His speed would add an extra dynamic to the Canadiens' offensive attack.

6. Youth and potential: At just 17 years old, Michkov has a lot of potential for growth and improvement. The Canadiens could view him as a long-term investment, envisioning him as a key piece of their team for years to come.

7. Excitement and fan engagement: Michkov's electrifying style of play and scoring ability could generate excitement among fans. This could lead to increased attendance, merchandise sales, and overall fan engagement.

8. International experience: Michkov has represented Russia in international tournaments, showcasing his skills on a global stage. This experience could translate to a smooth transition to the NHL, as he has already competed against top talents from around the world.

9. Mentorship from veterans: The Canadiens' roster includes experienced players who could provide mentorship to young talents like Michkov. Learning from veterans can help him further develop his skills and adapt to the NHL game.

10. Potential franchise player: If Michkov reaches his full potential, he could become a cornerstone player for the Canadiens. A franchise player of his caliber can elevate the team's performance, attract other top talents, and potentially lead to long-term success.

These are some of the reasons why the Montreal Canadiens might consider selecting Matvei Michkov in the draft and how his skills could positively impact the team.
Will see if ChatGPT was right..

Considering the sheer number of posts and time dedicated to the traded picks throughout the season, it feels like a big dose of excitement was taken from under us.
aaahhh but think of the upside it put the final nail in the Dubois to Montreal coffin. :sarcasm:

More enticing sure, but I don't think it moves the needle for the team above us. If anyone it may get us to 4th.

That would mean we traded 5th, 31st and 37th for 4th. They would have to really love #4 for that to happen.
Maybe they do. And know that he won’t be there at 5

During the 2019-2020 Youth Olympics, Michkov absolutely tore up the competition carrying Russia to the gold medal and scoring 14 points in 4 games (9+5).

Adam Fantilli ? 3 points in 4 games.
Yeah but Fantilli was much better than him at the Worlds. :sarcasm:

I just put $2 down on Leonard getting picked 4th with a $50 payout. I don't think it will happen but I wouldn't be surprised and that's a decent return for chump change.

I think the Habs will wind up with one of Leonard/Dvorsky/Reinbacher tonight. I have a hunch that they would pass on Smith or Michkov if available, or trade back a few spots (no further back than pick 8) as Smith/Michkov are missing a few of the attributes this Habs regime prioritizes.

Total gut feeling based on recent Habs acquisitions under HuGo.
