I don’t have much hopes in Kidney personally, hope he proves me wrong!
I chose Kapanen, unspectacular but I think a safe future 3C

His IQ is one of the best in our prospect pool though.
I sometimes wonder what this means. Do you qualify his IQ as high because of his ability to generate offense (points)? To me, his IQ is still a question mark. He has definitely figured out this level he has been playing at, but I have been concerned with his inability to shine on big stages or against increased competition (playoffs, WJC, didn't get to play in AHL, but wasn't on the level in practices)

I agree he has some good tools, otherwise he wouldn't have had the success he has had, but I am not sure his IQ is what carries him though. I feel the transition to the pro game will be hard for him. I also wonder how commited he is to his training as he didn't really bulk up in the last two years. The next two will be telling.

I see him having a hard time transitioning and falling a lot in the next installment of prospects ranking.

I much prefer Struble, although I wouldn't write off Kidney completely either.

His IQ is one of the best in our prospect pool though.

It does appear as though that is his strongest trait but it is tough to accurately assess hockey IQ in teenagers playing junior hockey. Sometimes moderate IQ combined with creativity can be very productive in these leagues. There is just so much time and space in junior hockey that players who have a solid understanding of the game can easily manipulate it but the real difference is processing speed and he has yet to be challenged with applying his understanding of the game while under serious duress. I am really curious to see how he handles himself with less time and space. I suspect he will take time to adapt to the AHL but I am not yet convinced that he has what it takes to play in the NHL.

His strength and skating are also significant issues and he profiles much more like a career minor leaguer. Hopefully he can take some big strides because he does have some skill and if his mind translates to the pro game he could surprise.

I know we all have stopped believing in Primeau, myself included, because he has sucked a lot in the NHL but I still think at this point he's the best prospect of the bunch.

?

Kidney scored 17 pts in 9 playoffs games in his d-1 season, and scored 22 pts in 13 games in his d+2. Those are great numbers.

He barely played in the wjc, and there are 0 conclusions that can be made about a player from hockey practices.

Have you seen me make a conclusion? I have raised doubt, but remain intrigued by his potential.

His playoffs successes came early and in a flurry. He slowed down considerably when the games got tougher and suddenly wasn't that noticeable against the good teams. If you want to stats watch, go ahead, but I showed interest in a day to day basis and have come out disappointed at key moments in the season.

Hopefully he can prove me wrong in the future. I would like that very much.

Raising doubt on a player based on how he performed in practices and how he played in the 5 total minutes he got in the wjc makes 0 sense.

Clearly you do not wish to have an intelligent debate or conversation as you are bringing down two entire posts to the most insignificant aspects described while taking out all the valid arguments presented. It's not something I had seen from you in the past, I think it's a shame you resort to such tactics in discussion.

I will be warned now not to try to have a rational discussion with you. Good day sir.

Not sure how there can be any intelligent debate when you're using ahl practices and 5 minutes of wjc playing time to prove a point.

Does anyone here truly believe another GM would want Kidney over Struble?

That actually sounds like a disgusting menu option lol.....

I think GMs would take Struble over Kidney because of a perceived greater certainty of making the show, which I believe to be a mistake in thinking.

The upside between the two isn't close, Kidney is far more talented.
