Jaroslav Chmelar was one of the last cuts this year. Eligible next year. I think he’s close to a lock.

Matej Prcik is another defenseman to add to the list. I think he could be a draft pick this year.

I don't follow Czech hockey close enough but is this a better team than this years one?

My first glance is that the defense is better simply with their 2 top guys being a year older.

Easily. The 2003 defenders are already better than the 2002 defenders. This year there were already 6 2003 for 2 2002. Hamara will be added. For the first time in a very long time, Czechia has a defensive potential of a favorite nation (better than Finland) with Jiricek, Svozil, Moravec, Spacek, Tichacek, Hamara.

In the net, Hamrla and D. Kral should maintain this year's level. On the attack, the team will still lose Mysak, Novak and Gut but it should be slightly better.

Thanks for doing this!

Goalies will be of a similar good quality. No Walsstedt or Askarov but it's a good group.

D is very good! Top 5 good. Now let's see if they can not all get injured in a short time. We lost Jiricek this year. We lost Jiricek and Hamara at U18. Seems to be a tradition now.

That loss against Germany, we used 5 defenders and they are all back and so will Jiricek. Hamara is excellent and should be drafted by then.

Forwards are weak. However, Sapovaliv just got promoted to an A ranking and may now be a first round candidate. That is extremely exciting as we now have potentially 2 forwards going in round 1 (Kulich) as well as Jiricek. Pretty much unheard of for us so I'll wait till draft day. Sale should be a first rounder in his draft year.

Hope Marcel Marcel knows he'll be going viral!

On a sad note... poor Krutil this year. Flew out, quarantined, had to sit 2 games for a suspension and when he was ready to play they cancelled the tournament and flew him back.lol That poor kid.

In the year 05, there are definitely better forwards than Šimek. At least Šprynar, Štancl, Felcman have a better chance. In general, this is perhaps the most talented group of attackers I remember, it is even more numerous than 99. The question is just how good they will be in two or three years.

Really hard to predict the offense as it will be quite young. So much talent though.
But defense will be outstanding. Hopefully makes up for the inexperience up front.

Could seriously see this team compete for a medal.

If properly coached to our strengths... good D and counter attacking with a guy like Svozil pinching all afternoon... we could be a right pain in the ass for people! Never the fav but all our pieces are in place for once.

If the pipedream is true and Sapovalov and Kulich are first rounders and Sale is projected to be one.. that isn't so bad at all!

This Czech team could potentially medal due to how strong the defense is. It would require the goaltending to not play bad and the young forwards to produce as top forwards at the tournament.

Sale-Brabanec-Rysavy
Kos-Kulich-Chmelar
Petr-Sapovaliv-Slavicek
Marcel-Szturc-Mechura
Jecho-Moravec

Svozil-Jiricek
Moracek-Spacek
Hamara-Machu
Sedivy-Tichacek

Hamrla
Kral
Suchanek

I will say this... This is the best a team has looked for us a year out in 5 years.

The forwards won't outperform other teams top forwards though. No michkov, Bedard, slaf etc.

This would be a great roster for a guy like varada.

Sale needs a draft year Necas tournament. Kulich has a good chance to be a first round pick. I don’t think as a returner 1PPG is too unlikely. I don’t think contributions from Slavicek and Sapovaliv are unrealistic, and then the older guys like Rysavy, Brabanec, Kos, Chmelar have to show up, even if they aren’t expected to be stars.

The 99-born squad looked better a year out.

And funny you mention Varada, because it's him who absolutely butchered the 99's chances of any success that year with terrible roster decisions. Did better a year later, especially considering the circumstances, but still left me wanting me more given his reputation.

Oh he shit the bed spectacularly! I wanted him shot because that was a very good squad. No excuses for him.

However... I think he is better with a more lunchpail crew and is good with a hard working blue nose group. Him coaching kaut, Zadina, necas, Hajek and chytil was awful.

Put another way... A structured coach could work with that group next year. Running 3 consistent forward lines with scoring balanced out.

But when I looked at this year's roster a year ago... I was not very encouraged. This looks better if kulich and sapo are the real deal.

The older guys are nice parts but I'm not sure any make it to NHL. I'm a Brabenec fan but am skeptical. We will see though... That lost year messed up a lot of developmental paths.

I agree that the year 99 Varaďa really literally massacred. On the other hand, Pešán managed to get the most out of that team a year earlier. These are incredible paradoxes in Czech hockey.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 05 strikers were better than 99. Moreover, when Chytil and Zadina are very disappointing and Kaut isn't even in the NHL.
And I would be interested in one thing. At the beginning of the season, defender Jakub Dvořák played in U17, he looked like the dominant defender in the national team, then he had to play with U18, but he has not played a single match since. Does anyone know what's wrong with him?

Unfortunately, all these strikers in the year 03 are below-average players. And I can't imagine that this team could replace this obvious handicap compared to top teams with younger players, many even by two years.

Czech article saying World Jr's are happening in summer. They won't change the ages from December so our entire team would be elibible even if 20 in summer. Given Krutil has now served his suspension and is playing in Sweden.. that could be a nice bonus! Also, a guy to consider:

This came out today and he is in some elite compnay! Keep in mind every country will be stronger if it happens in summer too!

Jiricek retained his spot. Kulich seems to be in second round territory now.

Nice to see 3D elibible and likely to get drafted in rounds 3 to 7

Also, I would've sworn Marcel Marcel was in the CHL.lol
