Start the season against Montreal.
The North Stars? Sure.Great choice for the first Saturday night game against a heated rival like Minnesota.

It's Toronto where business is booming and they're making a killing either way. Would have been more hyped if it was Chicago on that Saturday night with Bedard.this is the proper way from a business perspective why put a big rival game early in the year when fans are most likely to tune in since the first saturday in the season.

They don't make the schedule just for the Leafs. They have to consider all Teams and their travel.
Those are local times. 4:00 PT is 7 ET. There’s a Saturday San Jose game that’s the same way.Saturday Jan 20, 4:00 pm in Vancouver - I assume this is one of those Hockey Day in Canada days - surprised that we aren't at 7 or 10 pm
I don’t see what difference it makes.True but Minnesota being the first Saturday game does make a ton of sense

Like I said I don’t see what difference it makes. It's the first HNIC of the regular season that needs to be either a rival like Ottawa, an original 6 or a guy like Crosby or Mcdavid coming in.
You need to start the season with a bang.
Minnesota is an odd choice.

why as the first Saturday game it's likely to get great ratings for that reason alone why not leave those rival or marque games till mid season where it's harder to draw fans for a random Saturday in January/February as an example?

They have almost $15M in dead cap. What's a bigger attraction than that? It's the first HNIC of the regular season that needs to be either a rival like Ottawa, an original 6 or a guy like Crosby or Mcdavid coming in.
