Ice Hog fun fact - Logan Nijhoff was Connor Bedard's captain on the Regina Pats for two seasons in 2020-21 (an abridged COVID year) and the 2021-22 season. He is not signed to an NHL deal, but signed an AHL deal with the San Diego Gulls following his Junior career and was traded to Rockford March 2nd of last year. He has played 43 career games in the ECHL and 19 in the AHL. Not sure if he will be in the lineup tonight.

That defense is awful, especially once Phillips gets called up. #1RD Louis Crevier...

I imagine Allan will play on his off-side a lot. He’s got a lot of experience playing on the right. I think he did during the world juniors for instance.

Allan is 100% playing the right side. And will probably play the right side when he's in the show too.

Needs a vet or two
I think, if my calculations are right, the Hogs may still have a spot open for one more veteran player, based on the Development Player Rule. It would make sense to bring in a veteran defenseman but the whole kerfuffle with Vlasic/Kaiser/Phillips/Allan/Del Mastro/Roos all being in key evaluation stages, there may be some hesitancy to take up a spot.

Development Player Rule:

Of the eighteen (18) skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a game, at least thirteen (13) must be qualified as “development players.” Of those 13, twelve (12) must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season.

Brandon Baddock: 323 AHL + 1 NHL = 324 Pro Games
Dave Gust: 317 AHL + 4 NHL = 321 Pro Games
Brett Seney: 250 AHL + 62 NHL = 312 Pro Games
Anders Bjork: 225 NHL + 71 AHL = 296 Pro Games
Joey Anderson: 165 AHL + 96 NHL = 261 Pro Games

Couple D guys here and Goalie have a chance for long time NHL careers...

WTS- this team is Much better than last year's Garbage Pile

I Want to see if MarcelX2 and Luypen can play--- Both might have NHL futures as role players...

The Real Hawk prospects are in the NCAA/Jrs + The 24 Draft!!!!!!

How was Del Mastro for those that watched? I'm most excited about him down there.

I don't know about the first regular season game, but he looked great in a preseason game against Iowa.

He definitely stood out defensively on a game where they got got beat down pretty badly and allowed like 7 goals or something. But I think the more impressive thing about Del Mastro in that game was his puck confidence, which seemed to carry over from the juniors very well. He looked very comfortable carrying the puck and using his reach to shield the puck and he was able to make some solid plays. Nothing crazy, but something that's nice to see from a defensive dman.

I'm a big fan of Del Mastro too and I believe he will be a very solid defensive dman for the Blackhawks. His foot speed might not be optimal, but I think it's good enough and with him it's only a matter of adjusting to the speed of NHL and learning how to utilize his strengths properly.

Del Mastro was also starting the game on the first powerplay with the veteran forwards like Bjork, Seney, Gust and Anderson.

Although they were rotating pretty heavily and Phillips picked up two powerplay assists. So he may be the guy in that role more long term.
