The only silver lining would be that it is not serious enough to cause long term impact to Leo's career.

Not to jump the gun, or that it even matters, but if he is out the rest of the season but is fine long term, he'd still be eligible for the Calder next year, no?

The other thing is it'd obviously hurt us in the standings this year, which likely puts us in position for one more high-impact player in the draft.

If Carlsson doesn't play 25 NHL games this season, then he'll still be eligible for the Calder next year. Both Z and Drysdale played 24 games in their first year in the NHL, but it was their second season that accounted for the Calder.

“Remember when The Ducks had that big, young Swedish Center who played really well as an 18 year old?

What happened to him after he was banished to Zegsdale Island?”

Why can't we have nice things

Trying to think positively here. We got Mac and Drysdale back in the last game, but lost Carlsson. Zegras appears to be ready for the next game. Lundy's projected ETA return was January. So he's also close to returning. Lose one top-6 center, but gain two top-6 centers, a top pairing D, and a speedy, defensive 3C is a big silver lining.

MCL was probably the best-case outcome, as it doesn't have lasting or lingering effects in, what, 9.5/10 cases?! Judging by the angle his knee bent, I almost expected him to have ACL and PCL ligament tears alongside a possible meniscus injury, which could have been career-threatening.

It’s 2023, knee injuries are no longer career threatening. Even the worst ones, guys come back no worse than before. It’s like Tommy John.

Well, case in point on the other side is e.g. Kyle Cumiskey, who suffered an ACL tear after two games into the 2022-23 season and has not been able to play since due to his knee being sore and inflamed. He's officially hanging up the skates after the season, but won't see a second of ice time anymore anyway. Yes, he's 35 or something, but case in point is that a knee injury has a non-zero percentage of ending one's career.

While it may be the rarest of occurrences, it can happen - and at this point I would not rule it out whatsoever given our terrible luck for the past six or so years.

That’s not that bad of an injury and I highly doubt it impacts him long term

Still sucks though, another tough winter in Anaheim coming up….
