You're saying that the head coach of the team doesn't know exactly what the injuries are. You think the training staff hides them away and doesn't tell the coaching staff what the problem is?
Obviously he's not going to disclose it to the media because that's how injuries work in the NHL, but come up with a better line than "I don't know what their injuries are." That sounds ridiculous. That's all I'm saying.
That's not at all what I said. I said he's giving the company line. He probably knows, in general, what the injuries are - knee, groin, hamstring, etc. I think Cronin can know that but still not be outright lying when he says he doesn't know specifics.
It doesn't sound ridiculous at all to me. It sounds like a coach who knows his players are hurt, knows the general area (legs/core), but doesn't know specifically what muscle/tendon/ligament was pulled or how bad it is, and doesn't bother to ask because what does it matter to him? As long as the training staff says they're out, they're out. I'm sure he's getting updates on how close they are to returning, but otherwise, he's got healthy people to worry about.
And even if he does know more than he's letting on, it doesn't matter. The team obviously doesn't want him to disclose it, so he's not. I'm not going to blame him for that. And the NHL allows teams to be cagey with their injury disclosures, so they're going to be. I suppose you can be mad at Verbeek for not allowing more disclosure.
As a side note, with the NHL getting more and more into bed with the gambling community, I wonder how long they're going to let teams get away with the "lower body injury" stuff. They're going to get enhanced pressure from gambling interests to force teams into detailed disclosure.
