He's not perfect, but Sheng is no shill and we are lucky to have a guy who is a proper journalist covering this team given how bad it is. That's all I have to say about that.
I like Sheng, I think he does a pretty good job. I think like many journalists, they have personal relationships with the players and coaches and that can understandably make it hard to be strictly objective. He's privy to a lot more than he can actual report. I don't fault him for that, and don't want him to be Larry Brooks.

Whatever you say, Dan Boyle.

Don't get me started on JD and various tics while talking or even listening. God love him, he's a passionate fan but it's makes Locked On a hard listen.

I hate being critical of guys who are putting themselves out there, but I think JD would make an amazing producer - he has good ideas, good guests, good episode topics… but being a good producer and a good host are two very different things and I really appreciate his podcast but it’s been definitely hard to listen to sometimes.

He needs to just spend a summer taking some radio host/acting classes so we don’t have to hear “type of situation” said 300 times in 23 minutes. It’s a skill that needs practice.

It’s actually why I miss Brodie on the after show, he’s a very likable, very easy to listen to host. But he is also very trained and it’s apparent.

You promised to never reveal my identity.

No, he’s the f***ing bush behind them, of course he’s the deer. You’ve seen him skate, he looks like a baby deer out there half the time.
On his very best day Will Smith can't even walk as gracefully and elegantly as a deer, let alone skate like one. How dare you besmirch the greatness of fawns.

Sheng is great, and I appreciate his work (shoutout to Keegan too!). To compare him to Sharks ass licker Brodie Brazil (yes, I know he gets paid to do this) is comical imo.

A little ironic when Sheng literally is hired by the Sharks broadcasters, and his coverage clearly changed from independent analysis to who do the Sharks want me to praise this week?

I can't wait for the next feature on how Goodrow is actually really good and every scout says so.

I was happy to get paid (1st, or a 2nd at a minimum) to take Goodrow last summer, despite the awful contract, because I figured as a replacement level forward he'd bring a lot of leadership and work ethic. I saw value (about $1-$1.5M/year) and hoped he could bounce back to a $2M player. However, we didn't get paid, and should have never claimed him on waivers. Moreover he's been significantly worse than I anticipated (despite low expectations). I agree that Goodrow's been terrible, and Sheng's overly positive on him. I don't get it. Kunin (who's our 7th best forward), Ferraro, and Sturm I totally get, but we're aligned on Goody being terrible. The problem is they are all too high in the line-up, not that they're not NHL caliber players.

That said, I totally disagree on your broader point on Sheng. He still does a ton of independent analysis. Some of his pro-vet/old school/anti-analytics hockey takes can be tired (albeit consistent with what we see from NHL coaches/gms, which makes me wonder if I'm wrong), but by in large we're lucky to have him. Remember Kevin Kurz....Sheng remains a breadth of fresh air.
