I was searching for an adjective that didn't seem condescending or hyperbolic and settled on perspicacious.

I wanted to bring attention to this interview of this perspicacious young man:
Were he covering a team like the Maple Leafs or the Canadiens, he'd have 50x the attention, no doubt

Yea I watched his videos sometimes. Definitely a better listen than something like Locked on Sharks.
That is when they actually show up to class haha.Sheng and Keegan remain in a class of their own .
A little ironic when Sheng literally is hired by the Sharks broadcasters, and his coverage clearly changed from independent analysis to who do the Sharks want me to praise this week?I like him too. I do wish he'd ditch the 'class is now in session', but he has a pretty thoughtful perspective, and it fits the persona he created. Ultimately, it contributes to being more memorable, which likely drives subscriptions (which drives content I benefit from), so I get it. It'll be fun to watch him grow and improve.
Spot on with locked on. Feels like state sponsored media which tells me what to think. All the locked on team podcasts kind of sound the same to me (and I do mean beyond the ad scripts), so maybe that's part of it. Teal Town can be amusing occasionally, but I wouldn't seek it out. The one I don't get is the hockey guy- it's just reading lines and puckpedia information- league wide, but I haven't seen any analysis.

But Sheng isn't "hired" by the Sharks broadcasters? He's occasionally paid for a feature article by NBC Sports, so those articles may be more favorable as a handshake agreement with Sharks org, but Sheng is absolutely independent and I am really surprised at this new strand of anti-Sheng convo. Have seen multiple people denegrate him as some milquetoast mouthpiece when he's often highly critical of the team.A little ironic when Sheng literally is hired by the Sharks broadcasters, and his coverage clearly changed from independent analysis to who do the Sharks want me to praise this week?
I can't wait for the next feature on how Goodrow is actually really good and every scout says so.
But that's what actually happens! The experts, coaches, and scouts think highly of Goodrow, and Sheng thinks "how can they all be wrong?"I can't wait for the next feature on how Goodrow is actually really good and every scout says so.
Sheng is paid by the number of times he says "Um" during the podcast....But Sheng isn't "hired" by the Sharks broadcasters? Brodie is the mouthpiece, being a direct employee of the org.
The negativity just really seems over the top.
I was a massive fan of Sheng and his work, but in the last couple of season (which just coincidentally coincided with his partnership with NBC Sports) has fallen off a cliff IMO. He isn't "often highly critical of the team" anymore. For example, even after the season he wrote pieces about how making a coaching change didn't make sense and Quinn should be given more opportunity - and then after he was fired, magically it was the right call to make. But Sheng isn't "hired" by the Sharks broadcasters? I haven't seen the change to the extent you have. Every one of his game reviews in loss, his public statements on the podcast, all are critical of the Sharks being very very bad and a long way away from good. He often tempers fan excitement about draft picks. He has criticized Grier and asked hard questions to Warso.I was a massive fan of Sheng and his work, but in the last couple of season (which just coincidentally coincided with his partnership with NBC Sports) has fallen off a cliff IMO. It's also funny that when there is an uptick in fan criticism of Ferraro or Kunin, there seems to be an oddly timed article about how they're actually good because of this highly-specific microstat.
No one has ever relied on Brodie for in depth analysis and critique like we did with Sheng. That's why Sheng has copped it in the past year or so - because his writing changed.
I'm not sure why anyone really cares about the content that Sheng puts out there. It's fine for what it is but his reach isn't going to be the difference between someone staying or being moved. Even if he was a complete Sharks org sycophant, there isn't any substantial action made because of it. If we were Montreal or New York where a writer may have some discernable affect on how the fan base makes their feelings known then I could see that but we're not. Our base is entirely passive and doesn't have a unifying voice of any sort. But Sheng isn't "hired" by the Sharks broadcasters? We should bring back Kevin Kurz.

We know that not too long ago, Grier wanted a first-round-pick for Ferraro. I can't see why he would have backed off that demand. How about Mario Ferraro for Jack McBain straight up?
That would be ideal but if we can't get it I think targeting an established NHL center or RD who's younger than Ferraro might be the right play.We know that not too long ago, Grier wanted a first-round-pick for Ferraro. I can't see why he would have backed off that demand.
I wouldn’t care if that happened but I’d still prefer a more future based return. How about Mario Ferraro for Jack McBain straight up?
