At one point though the starters need to pitch some innings. I mean the bullpen had to pitch 12.2 innings in this series and the guardians bullpen had to pitch 5.1 innings. You can't have starters who throw only 4 innings on a regular basis like that. If you do you'll have to dig into your bullpen and you'll have to use some guys who are not very good.
True. The bats need to also wake up as well… the team in general needs to get out of this slumber they seem to be in and start winning some games. Chicago is about to win and Minnesota are up early 2-0 on LAA.. there could be 6 teams within 3 games of each other after today. Time for the Jays to wake up

This team is a bit of mess right now. Offence has produced 4 runs in the past 3 games. Pitching has allowed 44 runs in the past 8 games. The defence has been poor, error-prone, and lackadaisacal at times. If we miss the playoffs, Atkins has alot of explaining to do given his underwhelming trade deadline.

I don’t know what the actual issue with this team is but man nothing is right with them. Hard to find any positives from this season. The only reason we are even remotely in the race is because other teams are under performing as well. Schneider is certainly not making case for removing that temporary tag from being manager. I think it’ll be a coaching overhaul and a core piece will be moved for sure. As I’ve said before it’ll likely be an outfielder.

You really question Atkins talent evaluation with the Kikuchi signing

I don’t know if there was anything wrong with the talent evaluation. He clearly has good stuff and was an AS last year.

They missed badly on evaluating the person and doing their research there. Just so mentally weak.

The problem is that stretch from like April-July was the only time Kikuchi looked good in his MLB career. He went right into the shitter as soon as the break was over. It's almost entirely mental as you said because the stuff is clearly there.

Wasn't a fan when the deal was announced given Mariners fans were like "he's good until there's a guy on base" and i thought "hey maybe Walker can fix him?"

Nope. But tbf i didn't like the Gausman signing because i thought his second half last year was more the real him. Happily dead wrong on that analysis.

They're incapable of learning lmao.

Vlad works a great AB, Gurriel is patient enough to get a pitch he can do something with. Out comes Teoscar swinging at the exact same crap the Os have been throwing on every two strike count and then Bo with the painful inning ending double play on the first pitch after working a god damn walk in his first AB.

Like...why, man? This is ridiculous at this point

Like I said before, too many Jays players still take bad or selfish approaches to hitting. Even if they make the playoffs, this type of hitting is not conducive to success there. They seem incapable of really putting pressure on a pitcher because they get themselves out on hitter’s counts.
