Very costly bad call, someone needs to politely talk to the ump, second costly bad call on a full count, cant be giving calls to the twins in key spots.
This is why Jansen is a better game caller then Kirk. Guy with a broken hand and you go away from a high fast ball, he was able to get contact on a off speed pitch. Could’ve called a inside fastball and jammed his hand
Merrifield has 20 games started and 74 PAs while batting 8th in the order. Presumably not counting tonight. It's actually his 3rd most frequent batting order spot (tied with hitting 6th) in terms of GP (Leadoff and 2nd are the top two spots in order)
I said when they traded for him I like the merrifield pick up given the way this team is constructed, they need some speed, and some hits, obviously first game, but I still stand by that, he was a good gamble despite a down year, he was good last year. Although I admit I know little on the prospect given up. We will see how this continues to play out.
He's too patient. Nobody on the team sees as many pitches in the zone and takes as many pitches in the zone as Cavan while also swinging as infrequently.
I don't think he'd get to .300 since he's not a dangerous enough hitter to force pitchers to "respect" him, but he could probably juice his average a few points if he was more aggressive. Thing is that would also curtail his walks and in the end his OBP would probably balance out.
