Slipping away might be a bit of hyperbole but the current stretch has been a bit concerning. In truth the AL really isn't that good. The Yankees and Astros are the clear top dogs but with how ramshackle it is, the Jays have a lot more breathing room than people think.

Boston has been incredibly sporadic all year, Tampa has hit a wall as of late and then Minnesota and Cleveland are trading the last wild card when the other falls out of the division lead. Still a lot of baseball to be played and the Jays, if they continue their current pace would be a clear cut playoff team.

Don't lose hope. the 2015 Jays were 50-51 at the deadline and decided "f*** this, laughing time is over" and proceeded to make some big trades and rip absolute ass down the stretch. For comparison, this team is currently still 9 games above 500 with some of their biggest pieces not finding their groove yet.
Yea I’m aware 7 years ago we went on a crazy tare with a completely different team. I’m aware how close we were last year. I’m aware of the past. I can also see what’s happening this year. Gausman was lights out at the start of the year and he’s coming crashing down in a bad way. Berries has been absolutely awful all year. Ryu is out for the season and that may not be a huge loss but one that hasn’t been replaced. Although Stripling has been solid. Kikuchi has shown flashes but has been terrible. The bats are starting to come to life but have looked pretty bad all year. Springer and Jansen continue to be unable to stay healthy. The bullpen has been an absolute disgrace. Then there’s montoyo who we all know how I feel about him. But this isn’t on him. The negatives are outweighing the positives at this point aside from our hot start and our current position in the standings.

To be honest and I just realized now I saw yesterday’s no score on for today and thought we blew this lead again. LOL. It doesn’t change my concerns but I can at least take a calming breath that they didn’t throw away another game.

White Sox broadcast just pondered the question of who the greatest Blue Jay of all time is.

Their answer: Vernon Wells. Not the guy who pitched here for a decade and went into the hall of fame. Not the guy who hit a walk off home run in the world series. Not even the other hall of famer this team had. Not even Greg Zaun. Nope, Vernon Wells.

My coworker probably thinks I'm insane assuming he can hear me cackling from the front of the store.

If it's the white socks broadcast with hawk Harrelson I'm not surprised by theirignorance. They deliberately leave out replays that go against the Sox or might hurt the narrative they are trying to push.

I understand where they are and that tb and bos are right on their heels. This team has been trending in the wrong direction for far too long.
It's been literally one week. A week ago today, they were on a 15-5 run.

and before that a run of 7-12. What's your point?

Most teams go through this, unless you're the Yanks. The Red Sox were 10-19 at one point, now they are 0.5 back of Toronto. Maybe at some point the Yankees will also hit a rough stretch where they are 7-12 or something? Maybe.

I get that there are ups and downs to a season hot and cool streaks. What I’m saying is this is outside of those trends I feel like we are progressively cycling backwards. Bats were cold as ice to start and now seem to be coming back when pitching started hot and is now ice cold. Our depth has been exposed on the bench in the rotation to an extent and certainly in the pen. Trades are difficult this early but I feel like something has to happen and sooner than later

Cool, I can agree with that. I trust management to make some moves to improve the team for sure.

My point is that I find it hard to see the team as "trending in the wrong direction for far too long" when they were so recently on a three week stretch of playing like one of the best teams in baseball.

So we definitely need to take advantage of tonight's pitching matchup because tomorrow's is really ugly. I do not recommend checking tomorrow's matchup.

Hey Berrios beat Logan Gilbert so never say never (and one of Kikuchi's wins was against Cortes). Milwaukee is also one of the worst teams against lefties.

Kinda wanted to see Manoah hit, he looks like he could drive a baseball pretty good lol

He probably could. He would also probably swing and miss at like 50% of the pitches thrown at him.

Everyone loves the unintentional comedy value of pitchers hitting but most of them are so awful at it (without sufficient time to train to get better) that it's just an empty spot in the order/automatic out where there's no real upside with lots of downside if a pitcher hurts themselves swinging or rounding the bases.

Swing at pitches that get thrown at you? Damn, going to need to bring out that rulebook again considering someone swung at a Manoah pitch that hit him the other day and it didn't count :sarcasm:

I know Manoah hits a lot of batters but throwing pitches at him seems excessive

Watching on SN Now and the audio is almost a second ahead of the video. It's quite annoying
